A Collection of Lighthouses
During my 3 week holiday I visited many lighthouses. I have dated and named them on this page with a view of the shore they warn of.
Kiama Lighthouse, Kiama

Driving down the Princess Hwy this was the first thing on my list to see of what I hoped would be many light houses. Being from Ohio, an interior state, I had a great desire to see rocky ocean beaches dotted with light houses to protect the ships. NSW didn't disappoint me in any way.
This is the Kiama Blowhole a natural waterjet with the Pacific Ocean as it's water supply. I sat photographing this wondrous spray of water knowing that I would never do justice to the power of the moment it went shooting up into the air only seconds later to be a rocky hole again with the white suds of the water spray seeping back to the ocean in retreat. The rugged beauty of this shore is a good reminder of who is in charge.
As it is true with my many first time adventures, as good as it seemed to be I always was amazed the next time around at how perfect it was as well.
Warden Head Lighthouse, Ulladulla

This lighthouse was by far the easiest to get to as we were able to drive right to the location. A fact no so appreciated at this date but much appreciated after some of the arduous climbs that I unknowingly would face in my conquest of lighthouses. Looking at the different type of rocks that lined the shores was always interesting and the colour of the ocean and the sky, such a perfect combination of blues. We didn't often have a blue sky as this it seemed to be I brought my winter Ohio weather with me unfortunately.
The low white capped waves lazily washing in had to be what Magellan saw when he named this ocean Pacific. It truly looked peaceful.

Arriving at this light house we had a somewhat steep climb up a nice smooth hill. It was the most unique in height and shape from the lighthouses I would see while visiting.
I imagine since it was already high in location it didn't need a tall tower. I could see the top easier this way.
The scenery is breathtaking in this northern New South Wales coastal area. I took several shots of this rocky coast but this best shows the jagged danger that the lighthouse warns of.

ACK!!!! Looking along the beach to the right you can see a tiny parking lot, in reality it is a huge parking lot and that is where we parked before starting the journey of the steepest most dangerous place I believe I have ever walked.
At this point we were not yet to the top... I was scared to death!... I don't think I would ever attempt this again. Poor Brian thought I was having a heart attack as I was scared so bad I could hardly breathe. It's hard to explain a fear of heights to the fearless.*s* When we got to the top there was a boat race just started and people were swarming close to the edge trying to get a good look to see who was ahead. I was happy to remain to the center and in the brush trying to take pictures without looking at the depth I could fall to. When going down was difficult for me as going up was I think I really had Brian baffled. He joked about it as 80 year old men with walking sticks passed me with ease as my cautious moves downwards took forever. Later in our adventures I think Brian saw the difference in types of climbing for me, climbing in the open is definately not a good thing with me.

These were taken from North Head, past the Quarantine Station, towards Middle Head and South Head.
Photographing these final lighthouses of my holiday I felt so happy. Brian had done a great job as usual finding what I wanted to see and giving me the experience in abundance. It was starting to drizzle as we completed this segment of my holiday amongst raindrops. It never dampened my spirit as I always looked forward to the next day. The variety as well as the simplicity of the lighthouses I captured will remain special to me always along with Brians encouragement and concern as I tried to overcome my fear of heights in pursuit of the lighthouse.
