Scrapping TOTW:
Starting Out
First those piles of pics
over the years.
How did you organize them?
Where did you store them?
How did you decide where the starting point to begin scrapping?
How do you decide which photos to use on your pages?
What do you do with the left over photos? or do you try to scrap them all?
What is the best advice you could give someone who is just starting out?
Debby~~
First those piles of pics
over the years.
They are still sitting.
How did you organize them?
As I have taken new pictures the last year and a half I have taken them put them
in an envelope with how ever many pics I think will fit on a page.
Labeled the envelope with the date and what the pics are of.
Where did you store them?
They are all in a box, filed for now.
How did you decide where the starting point to begin scrapping?
I started with the most recent because starting with pics from 34 yrs ago when
my oldest son was born was just to overwhelming.
How do you decide which photos to use on your pages?
That is probably the hardest part for me because I want to put them ALL on a
page!
What do you do with the left over photos? or do you try to scrap them all?
I have on order the puzzlemate books that I plan on making pages out of some of
the left over pictures because I think with them I will be able to use those
pics that are smaller.
What is the best advice you could give someone who is just starting out?
Start slow, don't do like I did and run out and buy bunches of stickers,
templates, etc. Pick out pictures for a few pages. Take them to the local scrap
store, or (sorry can't resist) check out my Me and My Big Ideas Stickers (which
btw are my favorites) and get just what you need to do a few
pages that go with the pics you have picked out.
Sherry Jo~~
First those piles of pics
over the years.
I am like Debby some of mine are still sitting there. Some people jump in and
organize every photo before they start scrapping. I do not do this because I get
bored with it and want to scrap. Of course I have 25 years worth of back photos
and this makes for a large job.
How did you organize them?
I place them in labeled envelopes and then in a photo box.
Where did you store them?
Photo box I bought at JoAnn's
How did you decide where the starting point to begin scrapping?
Might as well tell you on my first album ( my son's age 27) I made a big
mistake. I sorted all the photos by years and wanted to start with the baby pics
and work my way forward. This was my mistake, I got my book done but it was
hard. I now started on daughter's book at current and I am working my way
backward. I have found for me this is so much easier. I am still working on her
book but a few months back I decided scrapping by the year can get
boring. So I sorted my daughter's pics again this time by subject. You know like
Christmas,Birthdays, and pool pics etc. I love it this way if I have a fantastic
idea for Christmas I just look in that envy and pick out the year I want. This
is the easiest method for me that I have found.
How do you decide which photos to use on your pages?
I just pick out the ones I think are best or I like the best. When I have a lot
of good ones for an occasion sometimes I do a quilt page.
I have been trying to get more photos on my pages and less decorations. If you
look through the magazines they have great pages but most of them have only one
or two pics. I have to ask myself what is important pics or decorations. I still
love to copy a great page but not all the time I am trying to place emphasis on
pictures. The magazines and ads are trying to sell products.
What do you do with the left over photos? or do you try to scrap them all?
I place the left overs in picture albums or give to relatives. I do like to
scrap a lot of them but now I just take to many pics to do that.......in the
past I do not have as many pics for each occasion.
What is the best advice you could give someone who is just starting out?
Start slow sort your pics that you want to work with and do not run out and try
to buy everything. I know my style as changed several times over the last couple
of years. I have bought things in the past I rarely use now.
Also the first page is the hardest to make so just do it and it gets easier
Pat A~~
How did you organize
them?
Mostly by subject since lots of them had
no dates.
Where did you store them?
I bought the video storage boxes and made
index cards from cardboard for my subject files.
Also you can turn the boxes to the side and file
your panoramic pictures.
How did you decide where the starting point to begin scrapping?
I started on a heritage album since my dad had just passed away. Now I'm working
on current pictures. I also take days to work backwards on my other pictures.
How do you decide which photos to use on your pages?
By event or subject and sometime date.
What do you do with the left over photos? or do you try to scrap them all?
I don't always scrap them all. I return them to the files to be used later.
What is the best advice you could give someone who is just starting out?
I went to a Creative
Memories group. Get with someone who is already into scrapbooking.
