Scrapping TOTW:
Scrapbook Page Composition
by Sherry Jo~~
First and most important
I start with my photos. Now some people make their pages and the match photos to
the page. It is easier for me to look at the photos and come up with ideas for
my page. Photos are the focal point not the page but either way is not wrong .
Just do what is easiest and most fun for you.
The following is just a few ways you can do your scrapping. Only real important
thing is try to think archival products.
Now is the time to think background. Have you noticed pages where your eyes will
not stay focus on the page. You can fix this by making a border around your
page. If you are doing a 12 x12 page trim it down to 11x11 and mat it on a sheet
of coordinating paper. You have a narrow border for your
page.
Then next is matting and cropping your photos. Then try arranging them on the
page in different ways until you are satisfied with the look. Overlapping a
photo or journalizing block is good sometimes.
After this I usually start thinking where and what kind of title I will do and
am I going to journal or not.
Then now is time for you to decide what embellishments you will use. They are so
many to name a few stickers, die cuts, stamps and punches.
See how easy that first page was...
I want to list a few rules I usually follow but sometimes I do break
them....most of these I have learned through experience. Just remember the rules
can be broken and still have a great page.
Do not use my decorative scissors on my pictures. This seems to take away from
the photos.
I do not crop all my pictures in cutesy little shapes. I think this is a common
mistake when we start scrapping. I use rectangle, ovals and circles the most. I
do occasionally use others. Good to have copies when you are cutting pics in
case of mistakes. I have been there and done this.....
Matting pics in white or black then another color will draw your attention to
the photo. Also a busy printed mat can take away from your photo so mat with the
white first.
Also I found when you have to many different shapes of pics on a page you do
not focus on the pictures just the shapes.
These are just a few things I can think of and they are many more. I would love
to hear your tips on how you make your pages or even better some of your
mistakes. What you like about scrap pages or hate?
Newbies if you have any questions ???????
