I'm lucky to have a job that allows me to travel, mostly in North and South America. I have made one trip to Europe with my daughter Natalie in August/September 2001. We visited the UK and France. Our return flight arrived in Houston on the night of September 10...we missed the airline groundings by one day! My co-worker wasn't so lucky, he and his family were returning on the 11th when their flight was diverted to Gander, Newfoundland. They stayed there for a week and a half. My son and I were caught in a Canadian blizzard and stranded in our car for 6 hours. What an experience. I was robbed at gunpoint in Venezuela. The bad guys took everything we owned, except our lives. I'm lucky to have left the country even with that. I was in Venezuela when a new president was elected into office, after a bloody campaign. I was also in Venezuela a year later when the people voted on, and passed into law, a new constitution. I was in Caracas, Venezuela the day the killer rains started to fall in 2000. My flight left one hour before the airport was closed due to mud slides. In Argentina, I was caught in a blizzard in the mountains south of Mendoza. It was a freak storm that caught us off-guard. I've posted more in-depth stories of these and other experiences in the country links shown on the left. Hope you enjoy them. |
