Photos of Bolivia

As I mentioned on my Travels page, Bolivia is a single man's paradise! The women are raised from birth to serve the men. It has a little to do with the Latin culture, but even more to do with the fact that 3 out of 5 of them will be unsuccessful in getting married. I wonder what it is about Bolivia that causes so many girls to be born?

The women there are beautiful, and very outgoing. There is a joke around my office that I might end up with a Bolivian wife!

Psst, don't tell anyone, but it might end up being true.

In Bolivia, one can still see horse drawn carts on the road. It was a sight that caught me by surprise. Speaking of roads, the ones there are terrible. They are unpaved and very destructive to the cars. When it rains...you can imagine. The Bolivians drive Japanese sedans and 4-wheel drive trucks.  There are LOTS of Japanese sedans imported into Bolivia each year. They are right off the streets of Japan, complete with RH driving arrangements. I figure it costs too much to import American cars, although you can see them there. You also see European cars, some that are not imported into the States. It was eye candy for a former European car mechanic!

The National Police seem to be everywhere, checking cars for drugs and making sure that everyone's papers are in order. They have check-points on all the major roads leading into and out of the cities. Thankfully I have never been stopped or bothered by them.

In Bolivia, as well as Argentina, they drink a tea called Mate'. They brew it in a gourd and sip it through a metal straw with a bulb-like strainer on the end. They all share the Mate', drinking from the same container. It's not bad, especially when it's spiced up with orange juice. You hardly ever see a man with out a gourd of Mate' in his hands, unless he is working.
