The Winter Art & Chocolate Festival is now in its fourth year.  Its a cacophony of sights, sounds and tastes that descends on the Brookings-Harbor area in a sweet cloud of cocoa only once a year.  Usually, the festival takes place the weekend before Valentines Day, but a new year brings new things and new surprises!  This year, our little gem of a show will land directly on Valentines Day and the day after, making it an event to bring your friends and loved ones to.  There will be new artists, a couple new chocolate booths and plenty of fine, handmade gifts, jewelry, leather, pottery, candles, glasswork, photography, paintings, handmade soaps and much, much more.

There is quite a group of new artists for 2009.  C.Moore Glass joins the show this year with his wearable glass art and sculptures.  Come check out Chips groovy turtles, flower pendants and beads.  Another new artisan, Bob Rikeman, will bring his leatherwork to the show, featuring leather belts and unique leather jewelry boxes.  He says his purses hark back to the late 60s, when he actually was that guy you bought one from.  Hes still making them after all these years and various hairstyles!  And speaking of people that remind you of the past, Mary McCaffety, who calls her business Eye Candy will be selling her refurbished vintage hats, eclectic eyeglass brooches and various baubles, all displayed on and around her restored antique mannequins from the 1920s.  Another jeweler, although new to the show, shes no stranger to Brookings, is Miss Linda E. Morris of Coos River Wonders.  Her beautiful jewelry features fused glass, dichroic pendants and many other sparkling crystals, beads and findings.  Other new artists include:  Merritt Lavender Farm, Kristi Skipworth jewelry, St. Josephs School, Curry Relay for Life, Ann Foland jewelry, and Buzz Bean Espresso.

And how about some chocolate?  Bransons Chocolates are bringing their handmade chocolates, fudge, truffles and caramels over from Ashland for the first time.  Meet the chocolatiers and get some of their yummy creations for yourself!  Bandons Best Kettle Korn will have extra batches of their decadent chocolate-coated kettle corn.  They usually run out of this tasty treat, so come early!  There will be chocolate from some of Oregons finest chocolate producers, including a couple of last years favorites, Benedictine Monks Fudge and Carys of Oregon.  Theres a chocolate eating contest and a chocolate recipe contest to participate in.  For more information on the recipe contest, visit: www.davidwillhite.com and look for the link to the chocolate festival.

A few more new artists are:  The Gourd Gal, Wanda Tumey, will be bringing her bevy of beautiful gourds to the show.  Baskets, bowls, vases and birdhouses are all made from these homegrown, hollowed-out woody squashes and painted, decorated and embellished with artsy flair.  Tammy Tanner, of Jewel Notions will be displaying her fantastic jewelry inspired by designer styles.  Shell have opal rings, beaded earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, as well as unique and charming watches.

Of course, well be having many returning artists, including Craft Leather, who this year is branching out with a new business featuring heavy-duty dog collars and leashes made from tough 12 to 14 oz. harness leather.  They can also customize them with brass dog tags bearing your pets name and your home phone number.

Barbara Dolan, of Gold Coast Soap will be bringing extra chocolaty products that shes come up with this year from body butters to soaps and lotions, shell thrill the crowd with her delicious bath and beauty products.  Jim Rindy of Reflections in Glass will travel once again from Portland to participate.  He brings all kinds of fused glass items from earrings and necklaces to clocks, beads and mobiles.  There are just so many artists brining their work, such as Shadow Mountain Woodworks, Denise Bruchman Photography, Lauren Scott Designs, Burtonique, Fiddlers Wrap, Earthen Vessels, Windsand Creations, Evas Swedish Handknit, Ravencroft Essentials, Goblin Shoe Candle Co., and even more that well mention in a future article  So come to the festival and support your favorite artists and chocolate makers!

The 4th annual Winter Art & Chocolate Festival will take place at the Brookings Harbor High School Cafeteria Building on Saturday and Sunday, February 14th and 15th from 10 AM to 5 PM.  For more information, visit www.davidwillhite.com, or call 541-266-9473.  Bring a friend and dont miss out on all the fun!
