Art, Chocolate & Fun

Something for everyone!
One of the tastiest activities Brookings has to offer is the Winter Art & Chocolate Festival.  Everything at the event is handmade, from pottery and woodwork to jewelry, fashion accessories and of course, CHOCOLATE!  Admission if free and everyone is welcome What more could you ask for?

The Art
Shadow Mountain Woodworks, by Medford Artisan Trace Tabor, features handmade wooden spoons, spatulas, forks, tongs and dippers.  Trace crafts each utensil with attention to wood selection, grain pattern, function and detail.  Much of the wood he uses comes from old fruit trees that he salvages from local orchards that are being replaced by development.
Denise Bruchman, a photographer from Jefferson Oregon, will be brining her ever-popular photos of our great state.  Her images include a frozen Multnomah Falls, black and white landscapes, lighthouses, barns, trees and more.
Lauren Scott Designs, from Grants Pass, specializes in floral wreaths, garlands and swags bursting with color, style and creativity.

Burtonique, (a.k.a. Len & Vi Burton) will bring original oil paintings, photos, prints and cards to the show.  Locals probably remember them running the farmers market down at the port each summer.
Fiddlers Wrap will return with their 14K gold-filled or sterling silver wire wrap jewelry.  Sue and Jerry Fiddler make one of a kind pieces of beauty that literally wrap themselves around gems, precious stones and rare mineral samples.
Michelle Curtis of Earthen Vessels will bring her masks, leaves and wall sconces to the show.  Dont miss her calla lily platters!
Windsand Creations by Waldport artist DeWayne Scrivner will be selling his ice blocked and artistically sandblasted glass hangings and sculptures.  His thick chunks of glass are graced with whales, lighthouses and other coastal images.

Eva Subias of Grants Pass owns Evas Swedish Handknit.  She learned the craft while still a young girl in Sweden.  Shell bring hand knitted sweaters, hats, mittens, slippers, scarves and shawls.  Her work is also available online at www.swedishhandknit.etsy.com, a handmade only web community.
Ravenscroft Essentials returns to the show with Gingers photos and essential oils.  Sharon Fitzgerald will bring her Goblin Shoe Candles to the show and dont miss David Willhites handmade pottery.  Not to mention, Merritt Lavender Farm, the Gourd Gal and Collupy hand blown glass!

The Chocolate
There will be more chocolate than ever before!   Several new chocolatiers will be bringing their chocolate creations to the show.  Kevin Shaw, formerly of Oregon Coast Culinary Institute, and wife Tara Shaw comprise a company called Coastal Mist.  Theyve traveled to Belgium, along with culinary students to study under Belgian master chocolatiers and taste test some of the worlds finest chocolates, which they also use in their truffles.  Try out their banana rum truffle.  Kevin says when he starts making the banana rum, he starts by peeling fresh bananas!

Another new chocolatier, Bransons Chocolates from Ashland will be there with their truffles, turtles and caramels.  They were the toast of the town at the Oregon Chocolate Festival in Ashland last year.  Try out their hazelnut clusters, Ashland nugget, Tiger Butter or a box of truffles!

A returning chocolate company, Chocolates of Oregon is preparing to sell out once again by bringing the oh-so-crowd-pleasing Brigittine Monks Fudge in several flavors.  Real monks in Amity Oregon make the fudge.  Also available at the Oregon Chocolates booth, the ever-addictive Carys of Oregon toffee made in Grants Pass.  Another returning chocolate vendor, Bandons Best Kettle Korn, will have their chocolate-coated kettle corn available.  There will also be a few non-profits selling baked goods, including Upper Chetco Charter School, Curry Relay for Life and St. Josephs Middle School.  So come to the show, bring a friend and your sweet tooth!

The Fun
A daily chocolate eating contest will take place at 2:00 PM each day.  Participants line up and scarf down chocolate as fast as they can!  The winner receives a prize, which is of course, CHOCOLATE!  The contest is free to participate in, but limited to the first 10 people to line up at 2:00, so dont be late!  Another fun contest is the My favorite chocolate recipe contest.  Participants must bring a prepared batch of their favorite chocolate recipe along with the recipe printed on a 3x5 card.  Entries must arrive by 11:00 AM at the Chocolates of Oregon booth on Saturday.  Winners will receive cash prizes:  $50 for first place, $25 for second and $10 for third.  For more information on the recipe contest, visit: www.davidwillhite.com and look for the link to the chocolate festival.

The 4th annual Winter Art & Chocolate Festival will take place at the Brookings Harbor High School Cafeteria Building on Saturday and Sunday, February 14th and 15th from 10 AM to 5 PM.  For more information, visit www.davidwillhite.com, or call 541-266-9473.  Bring a friend and dont miss out on all the fun!
