| 124. Beneath You (Thanks to Lea for the Episode Summary.) Written by Doug Petrie Directed by Nick Marck Special Guest Star Anthony Stewart Head as Giles Guest Starring Kaarina Aufranc as Nancy D.B. Woodside as Principal Wood A girl with pink hair is running from someone in Frankfurt, Germany. She fights two robed and hooded men who kill her with a strange curved knife. As she is dying she turns her head and says "From beneath you it devours!" Buffy wakes from a vivid dream about the girl getting killed. That same night Spike is in the school basement talking to a rat when the ground starts to shake. Spike seems 'freaked' and very afraid. The next morning as Xander drives them to the school, Xander, Buffy and Dawn talk about Buffy working at the new highschool. Buffy and Principal Wood discuss her job and what she is to do when helping the students. Buffy is pleased that she can hand out detentions. In England Giles and Willow talk as she gets ready to go back to Sunnydale. She is afraid that her friends wont accept her back. Xander meets a woman, Nancy, who is running from a giant worm that attacked her and took her dog, Rocky, while she was walking it. He takes her to Buffys house where he, Buffy and Dawn try and figure out a course of action. A seemingly sane Spike walks in and offers his help, confusing Buffy because hes not acting like he was when she saw him in the basement. They talk and Xander takes Nancy home. Dawn takes this oportunity to tell Spike that if he hurts her sister again he will wake up on fire. Buffy and Spike investigate the place where the dog was taken and talk about Spikes attempted rape. Buffy knows that there is something the matter with Spike, but he tells her that since they're not best friends any more, he doesn't have to tell her what it is. Nancy and Xander make it to her place but then the ground starts to shake and the giant worm appears. After running away, Nancy and Xander rest and she mentions her ex-boyfriend and a wish she made. Buffy, Xander, Nancy and Spike go to the Bronze where they find Anya trying to get a girl to wish something bad on her ex-boyfriend. They all argue, then Spike and Anya start to fight after she realises that there is something different about him. Spike punches her in an attempt to stop her from 'blabbing' about his Soul. Anya goes into Demon mode and punches Spike across the room. Buffy and Spike also fight and he taunts her and tries to convince her that he hasnt changed. Nancy leaves during the fighting and is again attacked by the giant worm but Buffy arrives just in time and saves her. Back in the Bronze, Xander manages to convince Anya to reverse the spell and turn Nancys ex-boyfriend, Ronnie, back into a human. It is at that exact moment, that Spike stabs the attacking worm. The worm transforms back into Ronnie, who is now seriously injured. Spikes chip goes off and he stares in shocked horror at what he has done. Unable to deal with it, he starts muttering crazily, repeating to Buffy the words she heard in her dream 'From beneath you it devours', then he turns and runs off. Buffy follows him to a church and finds out, between his ramblings, that he has regained his soul. When she asks him why, he tells her so that he would be the kind of man who would never..... Spike asks a stunned and weeping Buffy, 'can they rest now', as he drapes himself wearily over a cross. Smoke starts to rise from him, as Tears run down Buffys face. |
