In Istanbul a girl is being chased, she is finaly caught and killed by the hooded men who have been pursuing her. The hooded men use a knife with a curved blade to kill the young girl.
In a Sunnydale graveyard, Dawn and Buffy talk about power, as a vampire
rises from his grave.  Buffy tells Dawn that it is the vampire who always has the
power, just as the vampire asks for help, because he is stuck. Buffy gets him
out and lets him go, so that Dawn can fight him. Dawn manages to stake him,
but misses the heart. As he leans down to bite her he gets staked by Buffy.
Buffy tells Dawn she did good as they walk off.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is shown for the new Sunnydale High School, built
on the same spot as the last one.
Over in England, Giles and Willow talk about her power and how she must
learn to control it, that its not a hobby or an addiction, it's a part of her now.
Back in Sunnydale, Xander and Buffy discuss the new high school and Xander shows her the blueprints, pointing out that hellmouth is now under the principals office.
Later, as Buffy and Dawn walk around the school they meet the new principal, Mr. Wood, who chats briefly with Buffy.
Dawn is in class, introducing herself to her classmates, when Buffy, to Dawns
great embarrasment, interrupts her after seeing two ghosts in the bathroom.
Buffy mumbles an apology and goes off to find Xander.
Halfrek and Anya are chatting in a cafe. Halfrek tells Anya that the other demons
are talking about her, saying that she has gone soft on vengeance. Hallie points
out that it's not a good time to be a good guy.
Dawn sees a ghost in class, which lunges at her, making her fall off her chair.
Embarrased, Dawn asks if she may be excused. While in the bathroom she and
another girl, Kit, see other ghosts, then hands pull them down into the basement
below, as the floor crumbles.
In England, Willow collapses and tells Giles that she saw the earths teeth, The Hellmouth.
While searching for a way out of the basement, Dawn and her new friend run into a boy called Carlos, who is also lost. Suddenly, Ghosts or zombies surround them and Dawn uses a cell phone that Buffy gave her.  The phone call interrupts Buffy and the new principal talking, Buffy makes an excuse and rushes off to find Dawn. Instead, she finds the ghosts/zombies who try to prevent her from getting through a door. She manages to get past them and opens the door to come face to face with Spike.
Buffy hastily enters the room and locks the door behind her. She notices
that Spike has unhealed wounds on his chest, which he allows her to
examine briefly, all the time mumbling that he 'tried to cut it out'! After more
crazy muttering, Spike tells her the ghosts/zombies are manifestations
                                                   controlled by a talisman.
Buffy calls Xander who finds the talisman in the girls bathroom and breaks
                                                   it.
Buffy leads Dawn and the other two kids out. She runs into the principal
again, he is impressed that she seems to get on so well with Kit and Carlos,
who he had pegged as troublemakers, he offers her a job as a sort of 'part
                                                   time student councelor'.
In the basement, Spike is talking to someone and it turns out to be Warren, who then transforms  into Glory who then transforms into Adam.
The entity continues to talk to Spike as it changes into the Mayor, then Drusilla
and then into the master.
In the guise of The Master, it tells Spike that even though he tried to do whats
right, its not about right or wrong.
The entity's final  transformation takes on the apearance of  Buffy!
It tells him that its about Power!
