| 114. Older and Far Away (Thanks to Lea for the Episode Guide) Buffy leaves Dawn at home while she tracks down a demon. The demon disappears into his sword when she stabs him, but Buffy thinks she has destroyed him. The next day, when no one wants to go with Dawn to the Mall, she goes on her own and steals some things, including a birthday present for Buffy. At school she talks to a new guidance counselor and wishes out loud to her that people would stop going away. Later that night at Buffy�s birthday party Buffy and Tara talk, then Tara and Willow awkwardly meet and talk. Xander and Anya inform Buffy that they have invited someone they want her to meet, a young man named Richard, who they have hopes she will 'hit it off with'. Spike shows up unexpectedly at the party with Clem, a demon friend. Spike still has the marks from the beating that Buffy gave him in the alleyway, on his face (from the previous episode). During the party Spike tries to get Buffy to slip away with him but when she refuses, Spike brings up Richard, the guy Xander and Anya invited to the party. Buffy accuses Spike of being jealous. Sophie, a friend of Buffy�s from work, shows up and after she is invited in, the new guidance counselor from Dawn�s school, appears outside the house and is revealed to be Halfrek, Anya�s Vengeance Demon friend. As the party progresses Tara catches Spike flirting with Buffy. Tara gently teases Spike, without letting him know that she knows about him and Buffy. The partygoers decide to make it a slumber party and don�t leave. Dawn seems very pleased about this. The next morning Spike and Buffy argue, then discover that they can�t leave the house. Everyone gets concerned about this, but Dawn is angry that all people seem to want to do is leave her. Tara agrees to do a spell with ingredients Willow has been hiding, but instead of her spell releasing the inhabitants of the house, it releases the demon Buffy fought from his sword. He stabs Richard, disappears and then reappears in a different location. Later that night, still trapped in the house, Anya, who is freaking, wants Willow to try a spell, even though Willow says she may not be able to stop once she starts. Tara defends Willow and Anya decides to do something instead of waiting around. Buffy and Dawn talk and Dawn tells her that she did make a wish to her new guidance counselor. Anya, who is certain Dawn is behind them being trapped, searches Dawn�s room and finds all the things she�s been stealing. Buffy explains to Anya about Dawn and the new Guidance counselor. Anya realises who must be behind everything and calls Halfrek, who appears and is promptly stabbed by the demon. Buffy and Spike defeat the demon and Buffy breaks the sword. Halfrek is not harmed, as it takes more than a sword through the chest to kill a vengeance Demon. She tells the group that Dawn was in so much pain and they deserve to be all stuck in the house, forever. When Halfrek tries to leave and cannot Anya reminds her that now she too is trapped. She lifts the spell and Anya and Xander get Richard to the hospital, while Buffy stays behind with Dawn, in the house. |
