Buffy is worried about the upcoming weekend with her dad. She has a test in a class that she cant remember ever attending.  While taking the test, Buffy again sees the young boy she saw earlier.
A female student gets beaten as shes sneaking a cigarette in the school basement
Giles and Buffy visit the girl in the hospital and she tells them the thing that beat her up said something.
Later in the library, Giles tells Buffy he suddenly cant read. They talk about another kid that was beaten and is in a coma. Buffy recognizes the kid as the young boy she has been seeing around school. Buffys dad interrupts and asks to speak with her privately. He explains to her that she is the reason that he and her mom got a divorce and belittles her. Buffy is distraught and she again sees the young boy; Billy, after her father walks away.

and Giles figure out that peoples nightmares are coming true.
They split up to find Buffy.
Buffy and Billy talk as she tries to find her way to the library. He mentions the
ugly man as the one who put him in his coma, then the ugly man shows up.
After running away, Buffy and Billy end up in a cemetery where the master
confronts her and throws her into a coffin.
In the school, Xander runs from a killer clown and
Willow suddenly finds herself all dressed up and
having to sing opera before a large crowd. She panics, and tries to explain that
she doesn't know the song.

they find Buffy who is living out one of her nightmares
of becoming a vampire. She warns them that they had
better hurry, as she is becoming hungry!
They go to the hospital to try and wake Billy before the nightmare world becomes
                                         permanent.
Buffy helps him to confront his fear of the ugly man and he awakens.
When his kiddie league coach comes to visit, Buffy quickly figures out that it was
him who put Billy in the coma.
When the coach tries to escape, Xander catches him.
Buffy later has her
real meeting with her father, who obviously still loves her.
