Illumination from the side

Side lighting is: filled with shadows on the face (especially the eyes), can be used to show a multi/split-personality within a character, or describe a confused/puzzled character

The two extremes (one side is completely lit, while the other dark) can show two sides of a character.

David: In this photo, David seems like a nice guy. The brightly lit left side of his face carries the nice guy image for him. But, is there a dark side to him? The right side of his face if completely dark and left in the shadows. It leaves an eerie, mysterious feeling about him. Is he an angel or a devil?

Duck: This picture is very similar to David's. My ducks seems like a nice enough guy, but is he also a wild savage animal (no pun intended)? The ring of light around his face may also relay similar feelings of confusion. This ring of light seems almost like a halo... but it disappears on the right side. Both these pictures are like "Two-Face" from Batman: opposite personalities of one person.
