Illumination from below

Bottom lighting is: frightening, also unflattering, menacing, often used in horror films, creates bags (shadows) under the eyes, creates an illusion that the face is like that of a pale ghost (only the face is illuminated), creates a creepy shadow behind the figure

Bottom lighting is often used (using a flashlight and shining the face from below) in telling scary stories around the campfire for it's effectiveness of seeming frightening.

David: Despite his smile, David still seems evil. His eyes and the upper-half of his head are surrounded in shadows. This bottom lighting only illuminates the lower-half of his face and his shirt, everything else placed in the dark The way he is lighted almost makes him seem like a ghost (pale face, his surroundings completely dark). His smile also seems to turn into a set of evil chattering teeth, and his expression seems taunting.

Duck: My duck is a bit different from David. His face is completely placed in the dark except for his beak. Although motionless (he is a stuffed animal afterall...), he seems to give off a creepy feeling. The shadow behind him seems like a demon from a horror movie. His face keeps you wondering... What is he thinking? What is he planning? Is he happy? because you are unable to see his expression.
