| The first match on a Special LIVE Smackdown was Spike Dudley and Tazz challenging the Dudley Boyz for the Tag Titles. Clearly, the Dudley's loss last week was a fluke as the decimated Tazz and Spike, with Buh Buh ending the slaughter with a gigantic powerbomb to Spike from the Top rope. Vince McMahon came out to remind the world about his New Year's Resolutions. After saying he was going to beat Ric Flair beyond recognition, Vince (a man also considered for Time's Person of the Year) got annoyed about the "WHAT?" chants echoing from the MCI Center and decided to shut down the show. He turned all the lights off including the Titantron. Vince resumed talking but demanded the lights be turned on when he heard the sound of glass breaking. When the lights finally came on, Vince turned around and saw Stone Cold Steve Austin with his "What?" shirt on. Stone Cold said his resolutions included drinking more beer, more whiskey, and more wine while also kicking Vince's a** the first time he saw him. Stone Cold stopped when he saw Booker T and Bossman coming, but swung at Vince who was trying to get in a cheapshot. The numbers were too much for the Rattlesnake, however, and Bossman busted him open with shots from the microphone. New WWF Diva Jazz beat Mighty Molly with a Jacknife. Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley tried to enter the building to see Ric Flair, but the security guard refused. Steph said that he would be the first person she fired when she was in a position of power after her husband, the Game, HHH, returned on Raw. Chris Jericho gave presents to Lance Storm, Test, and Chrisitian, three of his "good" friends. The European Champ asked Christian if Y2J's generosity had anything to do with HHH's upcoming return. Undertaker said that he wasn't afraid of the Big Show and that he would teach the Big Show respect. Test challenged Torrie's boyfriend Tajiri to a match after Torrie refused to go on a date with Test. Big Show challenged the Undertaker for the Hardcore title and put up a great fight. He brought in garbage cans and lids, but Undertaker battled back by taking out the Big Show's knee. Show hit a Chokeslam, but couldn't make the cover. Undertaker recovered and put Show in that Choke Hold/Dragon Sleeper to end it. Stephanie again tried to get in, but this time she came with somebody on the list, Big Daddy Dudley. After the guard refused Stephanie's "charm" because he was gay, she became infuriated and left the building. Next, Edge and Rob Van Dam battled Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho. RVD hit an earlier Five Star Frog Splash but got guillotined by Jericho. Jericho missed a Lionsault and got saved when Kurt broke up Edge's pin of Y2J following a spear. Angle managed to hit the Olympic Slam on Edge and Jericho covered to end it. Ric Flair told his buddy Arn Anderson that he was going to take care of Vince McMahon in the ring, right now! Flair reminded Vince of his "date with destiny" at the Rumble, but was interrupted by Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley trying to get into the ring. The security guards let her go and she told Flair that he needed her on his side. She said that Flair couldn't quite cut it on the business end, but Flair started strutting around and bouncing off the ropes, annyoing the Billion Dollar Princess that she slapped him. Tajiri couldn't get the Tarantula on Test, but took a Big Boot to the face to end the match. Mr. McMahon and the Bossman were discussing Ric Flair and Steph when Booker T came in to give them the first exposure to his new catchphrase "Who?" McMahon and Bossman could barely keep from rolling their eyes at Booker as he prepared for his #1 Contenders Match against the Rock. Jonathan Coachman asked the Rock how his New Year's was, and the Rock asked the Coach what his favorite music was. Coach timidly said Barry Manilow and began singing it at the Rock's request. The Rock grabbed the microphone so forcefully that it broke! After repairing it, the Rock told Coach to leave, talked about the People's Baby Bottom, and said he would give Booker the People's A** whipping. Booker T and the Rock battled to determine the #1 Contender and an early start by the Booker Man was stopped by the Rock. However, Vince McMahon came down and tried to take out the Rock, but the Rock kicked out and Vince got attacked by Ric Flair. The Rock's People's Elbow was stopped by the Bossman, but the Rock took care of him and then hit the Rock Bottom to win the match and become #1 Contender. However, Bossman and Booker started beating on The Rock and Booker hit a Book End. Stone Cold came down, but got taken out with a chair shot from Booker T. |
