Kurt competed in a memorable series of matches against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit over Kurt's Eurocontinental (European and IC) Titles before Kurt lost both of them in a single night. Following that setback, Kurt set his sights on the WWF Title, and started to get noticed after winning the King of the Ring in 2000. The Olympic Gold Medalist finally defeated the Rock for the WWF Title in December of 2000, but lost the title to the Rock at No Way Out. Following the injury to HHH and the suspension of the Rock, Kurt became the main fan favorite to combat Stone Cold Steve Austin, engaging in several memorable battles with the Rattlesnake. Though he triupmhed at No Mercy in front of his home town to win the WWF Title, he lost it 2 weeks later and soon defected to the Alliance. At the Survivor Series Brawl, he turned on the Alliance and Austin and hit him with the title belt, which allowed the Rock to hit the Rock Bottom to win the match. Kurt now is competing to determine who will get a shot at Y2J, but has yet to become totally successful in his struggles against other top competitors like the Rock and Stone Cold. |
