Scuba & the Robinettes

Paul in PortholeMary & Fish Scuba diving for us began when the U.S. Navy sent us to the tropical island paradise of Guam. Being a very small island very far away from anywhere in the world, our recreational choices were very limited. We learned to scuba dive and enter another world; a quieter, more serene and prettier world than we descended from.

I loved scuba diving so much that I enrolled in more classes and eventually became a full time Dive Master, and Scuba Instructor with NAUI and PADI.

For the next six years. Mary and I spent all our "off-duty" time diving for recreation. We were very sorry to have to go back to the "States", when the military reassigned us to Hawai'i.

Hawai'ian Sea Turtle.

Shopping centers, electricity that stayed on, long distance telephones and current television programming were nice compensation, though. After experiencing the 1988 Typhoon Roy in Guam, Hawai'ian weather did seem a lot nicer (until Hurricane Iniki set us straight!). We enjoyed diving the Hawai'ian Islands, but we still talk about going back to the Island of America's Earliest Sunrise, Guam. For more information on diving Guam, Micronesia, Indonesia, or Truk Lagoon, there is a Divers' Forum sponsored by Micronesia Diver's Association run by MDA's founder, Pete Peterson.
