In addition to my newsreader (er, currently slrn running in cygwin, despite my Xnews info on this website;-)), I use Hamster to pull news from two
different newsfeeds (to unsure a virtually complete feed). Hamster runs as a
local news-server, so I then set my news client to pull news from the
localhost. As with mail, I use a fairly simple filter to eliminate spam,
excessive cross-posting etc., so that I don't have to waste bandwidth
downloading it. Inbetween Hamster and my newsreader, I use a couple of utilities to
clean up incoming, and outgoing news:
Korrnews operates on outgoing mail, and
does a few things like adding headers, correcting formatting, allowing easy
addition of nicely laid out footnotes etc.
Morver acts on incoming mail, and
does similar tasks to Korrnews - one useful addition is the ability to
automatically snip quoted text in top-posted messages - i.e. the text below the
new material is automatically removed, and marked as such.
