YOUNG AND WAR

2003-03-07

Australian juveniles decided to show their concerns about a war on Iraq.

Nobody had expected, particularly politicians in the power, that young

people are passionate and loving creatures, who oppose the war.

I don’t know why, because our democratic system, as well like parents

are teaching and praising them for peaceful and understanding approach

in relation to violence, aggression and brutality.

Thousands of students around the country went on the street to indicate

their rights to tell politicians, that they prefer peace and harmony than a war.

Prime Minister John Howard was very unhappy about youth

involvement with debate about our military participating against Iraq.

Of course who could expect that students choose school days for their peaceful demonstration. Plenty of people didn’t like that, but that was

the form of young people to get the most attention and to be heard.

They certainly achieved that but with mixed reaction. That is nice

that young citizens got so much feelings and innocent naivety about real

life, where peace and harmony has nothing to do with democracy

and freedom. Politicians have never been listening to any matters

pointed out by citizens young or old. Already Mr Howard specified

that he and his cabinet would make a decision about committing to

the war or not only by the Government in right time. He doesn’t need

democratic system to deal with this. We’ll see that soon.
