WAR TAX2002-10-04 Slowly comes up the real face of Howard Government. Coalition Government is preparing us for another tax. This time it is “war tax”. John Howard doesn’t like listening to citizens concern about the war. Most people oppose sending our troops to back up US against Iraq but the Australian Government as usual doesn’t care what we think and what we would like to do. Coalition parties are saying that we have a democratic country. What is the meaning of that? What exactly is democracy? Democracy is the way of governing a country, in which we elect members of parliament to form the best government as they can on our behalf. On our behalf, that means that they represent us, not the parties, which they belong. In our case John Howard and his Government were never precisely interested with representing people rights to their say or listening what citizens wants from the Government. Sending our troops anywhere far from our homeland should be properly consulted with all citizens, because we are all paying for that. Any sacrifice by citizens should be agreed with them by referendum. We have to accept that and take responsibility for that. People don’t like taking responsibility for other peoples’ action. Nobody likes to pay another tax because of government misunderstanding our needs. Is maybe time again to show members of parliament where our priorities should go? What about our health system? We have a very big problem in that sector. Nothing has been done to improve that situation. What about education or law and order? We can go and go with that for a long time and show our politicians where we need and should spend money. But politicians know better than we and they won’t be listening to us. They will be taxing us and making big salary packages for themselves. In the end who will suffer? Not them, only ordinary citizens. But we will not forget that. Election will be soon and this time I hope will be time for big changes in our political life, because we need that. We need honest politicians with heart not cold blooded, uncaring individuals who don’t see the true of real commitment for democracy circle in which we are as citizens the most important part, not the politicians.
