Hi Jim!
I got your name this week from Mark Shaffer. Before I get to the post below that I've been trying to get to you, I'm from Bowling Green but now live in Silver Spring MD (just outside DC). I have an uncle Lester (Doc) Speaker there in Elmore (my mom's brother). His son Jim lives in Tiffin where they grew up. My dad & his siblings grew up around Pemberville /Luckey/ Scotch Ridge. Three of my uncles still live there. I used to paint in the summers with them between there & Elmore.
I'd love any information you have on the post below, Shaffer reunions, newsletters, etc.

Looking for Shaffer Family Bible, last known to be at a "Sheffer" family reunion in 1944 in Staunton VA, descendants of Jacob Schaffer, b. 30 Dec 1728 in Darmstadt, Germany. It lists the names of Jacob's older siblings; he was the youngest & the eldest was born in 1711. His parents were Jacob & Rosina (Keller or Roller) Schaffer. Jacob Jr. came to America in 1748-49 (his 19th year according to obituary). I'd like to know the names of the siblings & any other relevant information. Is there a Shaffer Family Association? online? I'll take any address or phone number.
I am descended from him through his son Michael, whose line was not represented at that 1944 reunion. Jacob's first wife Mary (or Maria or Barbara or Maria Barbara) had 12 children before dying, as did Odilla, his second wife.
Please reply to me privately as well as via the newsgroup---I don't get to the newsgroups all that often & may miss your reply.

Hi Rooters;
I have been searching for my 3rd greatgrandfather's (Philip Lorenz Frank 1749-1797) wife's surname for some time. I have suspected for some time that it might have been Shaffer. Today through generous help from volunteers at the Frederick Co. Md Historical Society my feelings have been strengthened. They reported they believe her name might have been Elizabeth Shaffer, daughter of Peter Shaffer and Ann Schaub. They found several connections between these families in the church records of Zion and Reformed and Lutheran church in Manchester. All of these people lived in or around Pipe Creek 100 in Frederick or Washington Counties. In the 1810 Census widow Elizabeth Frank lived on a farm next to Frederick Shaffer and John Shaffer in Pipe Creek 100. Is anyone doing any research on these families that possibly have any connections to my family that would be willing to share that information with me?
Elizabeth Frank's farm was named "I will and Will Not". Does any of you ever get to the Frederick Court House who would be willing to look up the Grantor and Grantee on this farm. Philip and Elizabeth Frank purchased the farm between 1770 and 1795 and Elizabeth sold it probably in 1811 or 1812. The purchaser could possibly be John Frank. I would gladly reimburse anyone for expenses occured in obtaining these records.

I am looking for any information on Marion Shaffer. Unfortunately I don't have much to go on at this time. I know that she was born in 1869 and migrated to the US in 1879. Her father's name was Jacob. Marion married Arnold Brown of Corinth, NY (Saratoga Co) and lived there until her death in 1918. I believe that she is German, however I have not found her name on any of the ship registers for German pasengers in 1879. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you. [email protected]

I would like to apologize for not giving all the information I have on the Shafer's. I realized after I sent the last message, that I didn't include hardly anything. So here is the information that I have.
Frank Shafer and his brother, name unknown, came to U.S. from German and landed in New York City; neither knew a word of English. They were separated and never saw each other again.
Frank Shafer (1818-1890) married Christina Haudenschild (1820-1897) and had 9 children: John Shaffer (1847-1926) married Caroline Kaylor (1855-1901); Margaretta Schaffer (1849-1936) married George Bettorf (1842-1918); Magdelina Schaffer (1851-1942) married Godfrey Spreng (1848-1932); Francis Schafer (1855-1881) never married; Phillip Schaffer (1855-1928) married Margaret Kaylor (1862-1943); Caroline Schafer (1859-1936) married John Redd (1848-1915); Elizabeth Schaffer (1861-1945) married Daniel Kaylor (1857-1934); Anna Schaffer (1864-1881) never married; and George Shaffer (1866-1941) married Lottie McClaren (1870-1958).
John Shaffer (1847-1926) married Caroline Kaylor (1855-1901) and had 9 children: George Shaffer (1874-1888) never married; Margaret Shaffer (?-?) married Theodore Schafer (?-?); Helen Shaffer (1880-1938) married Henry Sylvester Black (1880-1968); Viola Shaffer (1883-1954) married Alfred Young (1881-1948); Anna Shaffer (1887-1965) married John Martin (1887-1971); John C. Shaffer (1889-1969) married Jennie Hawkins (1894-?); Frank Shafer (1893-1963) married Abigail Hanson (1892-1993); Charles Shafer (1896-1969) married Millersburg, Ohio girl, divorced, then married Dorothy Whipple (1898-?); and Edna Shaffer (1900-1910).
*Note: Notice how throughout the generations, the spelling of Shafer changed with the children. Again, sorry about the mixup. Thanks
