Subject: SHAFFER/SCHAFER/SCHAEFER - IA/Illinois
I am looking for any information about a Joseph Shaffer, living in Bremer County, Iowa in 1885, who married a Frederika BEUGE. I know he had a brother named "Jake" and at least two sisters - Elizabeth and Marie. Family information indicates that he had family in Illinois and that the sisters may have married into a Gieb (sp?) and a Kahler (sp?) family. Other than that, he seems to have appeared from nowhere. The spelling of the name changed from SHAFFER to SCHAFER to SCHAEFER. There is also documentation of another Joseph SHAFFER in the county at the same time who married a Kate Loftus. Any information on "my" Joseph Shaffer would be GREATLY appreciated.
Since I do not know where to start looking in Illinois, any other suggestions are very welcome. K in Iowa

I am still searching for my 3rd ggrandmother Elizabeth Frank. I believe she might have been (nee) Elizabeth Shaffer daughter of Peter Shaffer and Anna Schaub.
She probably was born in Frederick or Baltimore Counties Maryland about 1750. She died in 1813 in Pipe creek 100 area of Baltimore Co Md. She left seven children. I have her will and she left property near Hampstead in Baltimore Co Md which consisted of a farm "I will and I will Not" a grist mill and a saw mill so they must have lived on a stream. He husband Philip Frank preceded her in death in 1797.
In the 1800 and 1810 census it shows a John Shafer and a Frederick Shafer living on adjoining farms. Can any of you Rooters give me any new clues???

In my lengthy post of a week ago or so I stated that my g-g-gf John SHAFER, Sr. had been born may 15, 1801 in West Penn Twsp. of what is now Schuylkill and stated that it was probably part of Northampton County.
Contact with the good folks at the library in Schuylkill County revealed that it was more likely part of Berks County, PA. This supposition is somewhat supported by the 1800 and 1810 census data also which show several SHAFERs in the Berks County census but none for Northampton.
Just a note for any that might feel there is a connection to their ancestry.
