Gorkha Palace Temple and The Pokhra Valley 17 & 18 feb 2001

PALACE
TEMPLE.(17 feb)
On the
way to Pokhra ,we first landed at Gorkha . Gorkha is the 
birth
place of King
Prithvi Narayan Shah the Great, who is the founder of the Shah dynasty and
the
modern Nepal. The Gorkha palace or the Gorkha Durbar is situated on top of a hill
overlooking the snowy peaks of himalaya.The 2 hrs of climb through the
steep stairs made us really tired.There were 1600 steps and we were clinging on
to each other for help ,by the time we were not even half the way up!.And at the
end of the journey, we were so tired that we couldn't even stand properly!
The funny part is that we climbed up to see that there is also big
Helipad on top !
There
were two temples inside this palace-Gorkhanath and Kaali Devi.We saw the room
where Prithvi NarayanShah was born and where he was first bathed by his
mother!One important custom of this temple is the sacrifice of animals -Cock and
Goat mostly.We saw the blodd stains on the steps leading to the temple.We also
came to know that human sacrfice also still prevails there , but don't know how
far it is true! But we had a great fun amongst us when we knew that anyone of us
could be sacrificed!
POKHARA VALLEY (17

Its a beautiful
valley and one of the most visited tourist spots.The pokhra Valley has many
place of attraction.We visited the following
1.Mahendra Caves :
Caves with lot of limestone deposits and stalagtites.
2.Gupteshwar
Mahadev temple(Cave temple of shivling): A beautiful cave temple of Lord
Shiv
3.Davi's
Falls : An underground waterfalls in the name of a foregner who fell into it
and died and thus people came to know of the existense of this falls.
4.Barahi
Temple in the middle of the Fewa Lake : This beauitful temple with a
beautiful view of the Snow capped mountains is situated in the middle of the
Fewa lake ,the only mode of access is a boat journey. We really had a wonderful
time boating!
5.Vindhyavasini
Temple : This temple is visited by all the newly wed couple .Also This god
is believed to grant children to those who do not have kids.
6.Apart
from all this , the attraction of Pokhra is the serene background of the snow
capped Himalayas.The peaks of Macchapuchre (Fish tail Summit) and Dhaulagiri
