The
meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM.
In attendance were:
Frank B., Leslie C., Heather D., Pat E., Rick H., Russ H., Brenda
K., Casey M., Jeff M., Mike O. and Russ W.
Secretary's
report: Minutes
from the summer committee meetings will be posted on the web site.
Treasurer's
report: Balance as of
August 31, 2001 was $1,278.79. The pack paid for the popcorn
that we purchased for a spring fundraiser. The popcorn bill
was $1,251.00.
Old Business
Heather D., our Fall Picnic
coordinator, reported that we only have 6 families, a total of 22
people currently signed up for the picnic on September 22nd
at Lower Allen Township Park. Leslie
expressed some concern that all the boys may not have received the
information. Another
email will go out concerning the picnic.
Written notices will have to be sent to all members with no
email. She will include
her email address in this notice. We will also ask the Den Leaders
to call all the families in their den to make sure they have
received the information and to remind them to respond by September
14th.
A discussion concerning the Pack Roster
was brought up. Leslie suggested that our Fall Roster would
not be complete until Brenda K. goes to charter the Pack. Our
current list will continue to change until that time.
Mechanicsburg School District passed out our flyer
on the first day of school. It was as per district guidelines,
but not say very much or anything about the organization. Jeff
M. has received 4 phone calls concerning the flyer, as his home
number is the one listed as a contact. Two of the calls were
for other packs the other two have been informed of Back to Scouting
Night and plan to attend.
Volleyball, knot tying, fire safety and cooking, BB
gun shooting, forestry, and compass are the belt loops that we will
concentrate on at Fall Camp. A discussion was brought up concerning volleyball as being
too difficult for the younger campers.
Jeff will look into other possibilities for sports belt loops
and present that information at the next committee meeting.
Woodworking was discussed as a possibility for an activity at
camp. The cost and difficulty were brought up as problems. A stand for displaying pinewood cars was suggested as
an easier solution. Mr. Pete S. will be assisting us with this
project. These will be
ready to go by October. We
are registered for the same number of cabins, but turn in
extra-unneeded cabins by October 16, 2001.
We need to plan an activity for the scouts for Friday night.
Sam M. is aware of our needs for Fall Camp.
Boy Scout Troop 190 is planning on being at camp with us that
weekend. They have
registered for their own lodging and will be assisting us with our
activities and stations.
New Business
Registration materials, camp registration materials, pop
corn sales information will be handed out at the Pack
Meeting. Fall
camp registration is $6.00
per person we think. Casey will print up these forms for the
September Meeting. Mike will get her a copy of the form off the
website from last year. We
will be handing these out as a packet. We plan to begin the
September Pack Meeting at the regular time 7:00 PM. Back to Scouting
Night activities will be held from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
This will be held in one of the Sunday school rooms as our
scouts will be arriving before 7:00 PM and will disrupt the new
scouts. We ask that the
Den Leaders be available for Back to Scouting so that they can ask
specific questions. Jeff
M. will give a short introductory talk about the Pack and then we
will break the new scouts into groups. Handouts and Calendar of
Events will be handed out to the new scouts.
Set-up will begin at 6:00 PM.
The Sharks, Webelos Den II will have the flag ceremony and
the Hawks, Webelos II will have the skit assignment.
The Pack has already paid the bill for the popcorn purchased
as part of our Spring Popcorn Sale.
Brenda has worked very hard to get rid of the popcorn but we
still have 8 cases. 96 cans of popcorn remain.
Anything we sell now is pure profit and we would like to have
it gone so we can start fresh with the Fall Popcorn Sale.
On September 21, 2001 only the cans of popcorn will be sold
for the low price of $5.00 per can.
We are hoping that this sale will help sell our remaining
stock. Leslie will make signs for the Pack Meeting to be posted at
the Popcorn table.
Mike O. will email us with the themes
for all upcoming Pack Meetings in the 2001 – 2002 season.
Brenda K. spoke about registration concerning
leaders. Apparently the Pack will pay for this when it comes
time to charter us. The
council gave her a copy of the Pack and she will review this for
chartering. We may be
receiving partial refunds for the registration fees that some of us
previously paid.
Mike O. has been asking for quite some time for all leaders and
committee members to send him a job description.
He has received some of them and is putting together a manual.
He felt that it should be disputed to all Leaders as a
reference material. It
was suggested that one copy of this was kept in a pack manual and available
to anyone who needed to reference this material.
The committee agreed, as many sets of this manual might be
expensive to copy. Mike
will put together what he has for the first Pack Meeting in
September.
Leslie C. is our current Tiger Cub Den Leader.
She presented the new Tiger Cub booklet and information. She felt it might be too many activities for them to have to
complete. After some
discussion the committee decided to follow the new format.
Beads will be handed out for family, den and pack activities. The uniform bank was given to the Martz’s and should be
brought to the Back to scouting night.
Jeff informed the committee that he was unaware of any Tiger
Cub uniforms although there were some blue shirts and neckerchiefs.
The volunteers who attended the Upper Allen
Community Day celebration
reported to speaking with a number of boys and parents.
Some of the boys are too young to participate at this time,
but this event was a worthwhile community service as well as a
benefit to Pack and Troop 190.
A Service Chairperson is
needed for next year. This would involve our Christmas program with
the Methodist Home and the Scouting for Food Program.
