December 2001

Committee Meeting

Eagle

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM at the home of Jeff and Casey M..  In attendance were: Frank B., Leslie C., Pat E., Rick H., Russ H., Casey M., Jeff M., Mike O., and Mick S.

Secretary's report:  Minutes from October were approved as written. The minutes were posted on the web site and handed out at the November Pack Meeting.

Treasurer's report:  Balance as of November 30, 2001 was $1,325.75.  A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Rick H. and seconded by Frank B.

Old Business
Brenda K. via telephone explained the profit from the popcorn sale was much less than in the past.  The pack earned $1300.00 compared to last year’s profit of $2000.00.  Only 38% of the boys in the pack participated in the sale.  It was suggested that in future popcorn sales that goals be set for the boys to attain.  That process has worked well in the past.  We also should reinstate the contest for the top seller.  Leslie C. made a motion that this year’s top seller be given a prize of $10.00.  Casey M. seconded that motion.

Many thanks to Brenda K. for organizing our popcorn sale and to Lonnie G. and Jeff M. for picking up and sorting the popcorn.  A big thank you must also be given to all the Den Leaders who promptly picked up their den’s popcorn and distributed it.

The Methodist Children’s Home gifts were received and delivered.  The amount of gifts given was down significantly from last year.  Next year when we do this project again we should start earlier to remind the cubs of this important service project. Thank you to Diane L., our new Service Chairperson for handling this project.

The weather and the meteor shower all cooperated in making Fall Camp a memorable event.  The activities and meals went as planned. We have so many people to thank for their time and effort on behalf of the Pack.  Especially Mr. Jack R., Mr. Pete S., Mr. James E., and Boy Scout Troop 190. Many others contributed their talents so they we could have such a successful event.  Thank you!

Leslie C. completed the pack roster we currently have 63 scouts registered.  All but three of our scouts have email so getting notices to everyone should be fairly easy this year.  The Den Leader of those boys without email will be responsible for sending or calling any necessary information to them.  Don’t forget to check the Pack’s website for up-to-date information on any of our events.  Leslie distributed a list of adult volunteers to the committee.  One correction was made.

The Pack is in great need of a new Fund Raising Chairperson.  This person will handle the popcorn sales for the Pack.

Pinewood Derby cars were passed out at the Pack Meeting.  Frank B. and committee are now collecting prizes for derby.  They are approaching businesses in the local area and requesting donations such as small collector cars, t-shirts, hats, gift certicates, etc.  Upper Allen Kiwanis club will be donating money towards our trophies as in years past also.  We will have weigh-in on Friday night, January 11th beginning at 5 PM. The race will take place on Saturday, January 12th .

at 8:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.  We will be approaching Boy Scout Troop 190 to assist us again for our race.  Set-up will begin on Friday afternoon approx. 2PM.

We will once again be photographing thc cars with a digital camera to load onto our website.  Leslie C. has already secured the Pinewood Derby Patches.

February 10, 2002 at 5:00 PM we will hold our annual Blue and Gold Banquet.  The fellowship hall at St. Paul’s has been reserved.  The cost will be $3.50 per person and the menu will consist of ham, potatoes and vegetables.  Each family will be asked to bring a dessert.  Registration will begin at the December Pack Meeting and continue at the Pinewood Derby and the January Pack Meeting.  The Dens will be making our table decorations.  Please plan on attending with your scout and the entire family.  This is a wonderful celebration for our Pack.  We have confirmed our speaker as Mr. Jeff S. a local fireman who spent time at ground zero.  He will be stressing citizenship and duty.  A discussion was held as to what other persons should be invited.  Mr. and Mrs. Jack C., Mr. Brian D., our current Kiwanis representative, Mr. Ed T. and Mr. Jeff K..

Pat Egan will pick up the placemats from council that announces the summer programs for Hidden Valley.  He will ask for 250.  While he is there he will secure dates for the Tiger Cub Fun Day Activity and the Family Fun Walk.  Awards will be given out including service stars.  Tigers will receive a 1 year Tiger Cub Pin. Bears will receive a 1 year Cub Scout Pin, etc.   We will ask Boy Scout Troop 190 for some help in the kitchen.

Russ W. is checking into a hockey game for the pack to attend in the spring.  He will have more details at the next committee meeting.

 New Business
Mr. Mike O. asked for suggestions from the committee on a safety policy.  He purposed that a policy be made to include no children on the stage except for skits, no running permitted, and a maximum of 15 minutes to clean-up.  The committee felt that we should develop a code of conduct policy that each boy and parent will need to sign.  Jeff M. will discuss safety at the December Pack Meeting.

The subject of fund raising was discussed.  It was mentioned that in the past we held a sub sale in January to help raise money.  It was a lot of work, but we did make a nice profit for the Pack.   If necessary we will organize a sub sale for the spring.

Casey suggested we look into the new Giant Certificates that are a fundraiser for organizations like ours. It is an ongoing sale and is easy to do.  We would need a person to keep track of the sale.  She will contact the Giant and get the information for the Pack Meeting.

Mark M. purchased beltloop books for the leaders, Leslie C. had copies of an original made for all boys who did not currently have one.  The cost per book was only $1.47 for copies.

Mike O., Leslie C., Dan M. and Mike S. all completed Leader Training.  This is necessary for us to have in order to receive our quality unit awards.  Thank you. Mike O. will complete Youth Protection training on December 13, 2001.  Any problems with training should be reported to council.

Jeff will ask Mark Martin if he would be available for uniform inspection at the next pack meeting.  The committee feels that having someone in uniform will help promote our goal of pride in scouting and pride in their uniform.  Jeff will also approach other adults who wear a uniform to assist.

Reminders

The next Pack Meeting  will be on Friday, Jan.18, 2002, at 7:00 PM at St. Paul's.

The next Committee Meeting will be on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at 7:00 PM at St. Paul's.
