April 2001

Committee Meeting

Eagle

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM.  In attendance were:  Frank B., Leslie C., Pat E., Rick H., Sharon H., Gary K., Casey M., Jeff M., Mark M., Mike O., Terry S. and Russ W.. Also in attendance was Mr. S. from the Kiwanis Club.

Secretary's report:  Minutes were previously posted on the web site and were handed out at the March Pack Meeting. Minutes were approved as written.

Treasurer's report:  Balance as of March 31, 2001 was $2,331.29.   A question was brought up concerning the gifts amount of  $154.20.  The committee asked that this amount be broken down for clarification.  A motion was made and seconded to send a check to the Church for $125.00.  This donation from the pack is for use of the facilities.

Old Business

The annual Scouting for Food drive was held on March 17th and the 24th.  Hang tags were placed on the 17th and the pickup went very smoothly.  More advertisement is needed next year to remind people of the date and more door hangers are also needed.

See attached sheet for upcoming Calendar events.

New Business

Mechanicsburg School District is considering a new organizational flyer policy.  The school board meets on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Tuesday of each month. Leslie C. informed the committee that the School District would now require all notices to be handed out to be approved by the School Board before distribution.  All flyers will be handed out together at the end of each month.  This policy will be in effect for the 2000-2001 school year.  The Pack flyer must include a disclaimer that the activity may not be supported by the School District.  They must be bundled into packs of 25 with enough to cover all students. This is important for the Pack to know in order to better announce our fall sign-up for new Scouts.

Leslie C. discussed ideas for service projects.  Ideas included a game night at the United Methodist Children's Home in Mech. Her den played games with the children and then left the board games.  She also spoke with Pam C. who confirmed that a small den of scouts was started (one 4th grader and three 5th graders).  They will meet once a week and are doing a modified Webelos program.  She welcomed our interaction with her den. Mrs. Carr's numbers are 432-5498; 439-5468. This would be a wonderful project for our Pack and the committee welcomes any other ideas for service projects.

Mike O. passed out results of the survey. He asked if we would review the results and discuss at the next Committee Meeting.

Mike O. discussed starting a manual for the Pack.  It would contain job descriptions, ideas, etc…..  Job descriptions were passed out.  Committee Members will fill out job descriptions to be included in the manual by the next meeting.

Committee Members voted for the pack T-Shirt  the winner will be announced at the next Pack Meeting.  Small prizes were approved to be purchased for the finalists. T- Shirts will be available for sale at the next Pack Meeting.

Brenda K. will be handling the spring popcorn sale and will have information available at the next Pack Meeting.

Mark M. discussed various upcoming events that the Pack will be promoting:

Tiger Cub Fun Day will be held Saturday, May 19th at Hidden Valley.  This is for all boys currently attending kindergarten.  The Pack will hold a Tiger Cub Pride Night on April 20th at 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM.  The night will consist of information concerning what scouting is all about, what our activities are, and what tiger cubs do.

The Island Castaway Camporee will be held Saturday, May 5, 2001 at Hidden Valley.  10:30 AM - 8:30    PM  $5.00 registration fee if received before March 31st.

Summer Camp deadlines in order to receive the discounted rates will be set as the April Pack Meeting.  All registrations should be turned in through Jeff Marks. The troop would like to be able to keep track of which of our boys go and when.

Committee Chairperson will be filled by Mike O. while Co-Pack Leaders will be Jeff M. and Pat E.

If you are interested in any of the above events, please contact Mark M. or your Den Leader.

A Service Chairperson is needed for next year. This would involve our Christmas program with the Methodist Home and the Scouting for Food Program.

A Picnic Chairperson is needed to help plan and orchestrate our September 22, 2001, kick-off picnic.  Please see Mr. M. for more information.

A Membership Chairperson is needed for our Back to Scouting Night and Registration campaign.  This position will also be involved in seeing that flyers are distributed through the schools.

Please consider any of these positions.  We depend on the parents of our cubs to keep this wonderful pack going.  These positions would begin in June 2001, but it is not too early to think about serving the pack in any of these capacities.

Reminders

The next Committee Meeting will be on Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 7:30 PM at St. Paul's.
