

The province of Marinduque is a 45- minute plane trip from
Manila. The Gasan airport serves air traffic in and out of the
province. Dalahican Port in Lucena City is about 90
minutes ferry trip from the
province. The province is linked primarily by a 119 - kilometer
circumferential road that connects the coastal towns. The Marinduque
Electric Cooperative provides power to the island while water is adequately
sourced from wells, streams and communal faucets. Telephone systems,
telegraph stations and postal offices provides communication links.
Balanacan is the main port serving towns on the west side of Marinduque,
including the capital town of Boac and the municipalities of Mogpog, Buenavista
and Gasan. It links Marinduque with the provinces of Batangas, Mindoro,
Quezon, Romblon, Masbate and even Metro Manila and other islands of the Visayas.
It is 27 nautical miles to Dalahican, Lucena City and 57 nautical miles to
Batangas City. Sea distance to Manila is 150 nautical miles.
As
the ship approaches Balanacan port, travelers are at once greeted by beautiful
scenery and the calming presence of a giant statue of the Virgin Mary.
A
new berthing facility is being constructed on reinforced concrete deck supported
by reinforced concrete piles and provided with mooring bitts and fenders, to
accommodate more ferry boats.
