R. Raman Nair

R. Raman Nair took his masters degree in Library and Information Science from Banaras Hindu University, MA in History and bachelor of Laws from University of Kerala. He has worked in centre for Development studies, Trivandrum Public Library, cochin University of Science and Technology, H.H. Maharajas' College for women at Trivandrum, government Brennen College at Tellycherry and was the firs University Librarian of Kerala Agricultural University.

Mr Nair has designed a Multimedia Library Automation System (McLAS 1993) and the KAU Library and Information System with building LANs, Digital Library and IT Training Facilities considered to be the best in the country.  He has more than a dozen books related to Information Science and Technology which includes
Peoples Library Movement, Computer Application to Library and Information Services, and Accessing InformationThrough Internet and Internet for Library and Information Services, 120 research papers and articles and many national and international conference presentations to his credit.

His translations include
Siddhartha, Gertrudinu Snehapoorvam and Pullamkuzhal Swapnam of Herman Hesse, Nasthikanaya Khalil, Adhyanuragaham, Alanju Thiriyunnavar, Maranthinte Soundaryam, and Bhoodevanmar of Khalil Gibran into Malayalam and Suicide Point of Kureepuzha Sreekumar into English. He has translated into Malayalm more than hundred stories of Hermann Hesse and Khalil Gibran for various Malayalam journal and magazines since 1980.

He has organised many seminars and conferences including the
National Seminar on Right to Information, and National Seminar in Remembrance of Hermann Hesse and national level IT courses and training programmes under various organizations, which include Managing Digital Libraries in Agriculture (ICAR). Modern Information Access Facilities (NISSAT) and World Wide Web for Managing Agricultural Information (KAU)

Mr. Nair has associated with many expert committees on IT formed by professional organizations, universities and government. He is a research fellow of American Biographical Institute and is the founder member of Centre for South Indian Studies, life member of Rural Development Forestry Network (ODI, London), Asian Watershed Management Network (Katmandu, Nepal),  ILA, IASLIC and AGLIS.  In recognition of his outstanding contributions in library and information service field he has been presented him the IASLIC S.M.Ganguly National Award for the year 1998.
