Beginning the Game

Character Creation & Selection

4 Races (Clavat, Selkie, Yuke and Lilty.) 2 Sexes (Male and Female...duh!) and 4 Costumes. In total when creating a character you have 32 character variations to choose from (4 per sex). The screen on the left seems to be loading your character. According to IGN along with your clothes you can customize your character's name, gender, race, hair style and parent's guild.

Introductory Level

SO far it's been mentioned that the player must pass an introductory level to move on to multiplayer, this probably includes leaving your village to join the caravan. This will probably be rather short to avoid other players being bored to death in multiplayer.

After this is complete multiplayer fun ensues or single player should you be alone.

Playing the Game

World Map

The world map seems to be similar to the map in Donkey Kong or Legend of the Dragoon. Players pick a direction (note the red arrow in the pic), the caravan moves, you either enter the area or pick another direction most likely via the A Button.

Control Summary:

A Button-Select Direction/Location

Interacting with NPCs (Non-Playable-Characters)

Fairly simple by the looks of it, simply press A or B to talk to an NPC, there doesn't seem to be voice acting at this time. Items, places, Names etc. seem to be represented in Blue or Green text at this time.

Control Summary:

A/B Button-Talk to NPC

Interacting with Objects and Carrying the Crystal Cage

Here's where the B button comes in. During the game characters must carry around the Crystal Cage which places 2 Major roles in the game. Characters are protected from the poisonous gas when they stay within a certain distance (Note the Circle surrounding the characters in the screen above.). If the Characters leave the safety of the cage they will begin to take damage and eventually die.

Also the cage acts as a bucket for which Mirula Droplets (Western Version features Mirula Droplets rather than Mana Water.) are collected (the objective of the characters in the story.). To protect the characters from harm someone must carry the cage while the other players protect them. If a the characters are thrown  into battle the Cage can be dropped on the ground while the players protect it.

The cage is picked up and dropped by use of the B button. Also enemies sometimes drop various Items such as an oversized carrot (seen in the above screen) these can also be picked up with the B button.

Control Summary:

B Button-Pick Up/Drop Items,
Pick Up/Drop Crystal Cage,

Battle

Each player has a black circle with green writing and dots, the writing shows the current action that is performed by the A button. The dots represent how charged the magic is.

Up to 6 magic attacks can be stored here. These are accessible by pressing L&R to cycle through the attacks and weapons (Up to 6 magic attacks and your weapon). When a magic attack has been selected holding down A begins to charge the attack, while charging a targeting circle appears and is moved by the control stick or GBA Pad.

When A is released the attack is performed where the targeting circle was last located. When more than one player targets the same space the magic becomes more powerful, eg. 3 players targeting a fire magic at the one spot will result in a Firaga attack.

B Button-Pick Up/Drop Crystal Cage,

B Button-Perform Selected Action (Shown in Green Text Below Stats)
Charge Magic Attacks and Attacks (When Held)
Release Charged Magic (When Released after Charging)

Control Stick- Move Around the Battle Field
Move Targeting Cursor (When Charging)

L Button-Cycle Backwards through magic and attacks

R Button-Cycle Forwards through magic and attacks

Playing with a GBA

Information

The GBA gives you access to information such as health, stats, inventory, maps etc.

How Many are needed?

In Single Player you can use a GBA OR a GCN control or both (Gives you access to screen but with a more comfortable controller.). Also 4 GBAs are REQUIRED for multiplayer in the Japanese version but whether or not this is the case in the European or American versions is unknown.
