| PROFESSION INTRODUCTION Your character's profession is one of the most influencial parts of how your character acts and what he does. It defines what your character is interested in (or perhaps what he is tired of doing), and will be what your character spends a lot of time doing. Getting better buildings and providing better services increases as you play more, so there's also goals to shoot for within this as well. Most importantly, professions are the main way your character can make money. By selling items you create or providing services to others, you will gain money (duh). Each character begins with 3 profession points. These can be spent on multiple professions or on a single profession. Remember, though, that being Level 1 at a profession is not very good, and you won't make very much money off of it. It's best to center in on one profession. Professions are rather convenient; you can make and sell things during your offline time (though it's better if you're on). Be sure to mention that you "go to work" on something or "watch the store", as well as having prices for items posted beforehand. The one thing you must do in person is gather materials. You must replenish your supply of materials every week and spend 15 minutes of in-game time gathering. This is a very important rule that you can't bypass. Check your profession to see what materials you'll need, then visit the Resource Guide to find where they are. Most professions require you to have a building. Each profession has unique buildings to its profession, as unique things are needed. As you get more money, you can upgrade and extend your building to make it better. Some professions can set up shop inside tents. However, tents are less attractive than a nice building, and you cannot stock as many items. There are two types of professions: those that provide products and those that provide some sort of service. Product-creation professions rely on new and different characters buying things, while services tend to be less popular and rely on repeat business. Just like skills, your Profession Level can go from Level 1 to Level 5. The descriptions and requirements for attaining these levels are the same as other skills. The higher your level is, the better you are at your trade. For creation professions, you can provide more goods in less time and open up new selections as your Level increases. For services, Level bonuses vary greatly. Unlike in previous versions of the MMRPG, the craftsman must focus on making one item for a period of time; he/she cannot make multiple ones at once (without extra creation rooms... see Carpenter Extendder). This makes it all the more important to gain levels to complete projects more quickly. Other changes include making items taking a set amount of time (if it says 12 hours, it takes twelve hours from when you start... if it says one day, 24 hours). The biggest change is that to learn how to make new items as you level up, you must either be taught by a person of the same profession that knows how to make the item, or visit your race's library. The same applis for learning other races' items, except you must learn from a member of a different race or visit a different library. A good way to promote your character's wares and/or services is to post in the "Public Announcements" boards to list what you have to offer and prices. Also be sure to explain what each thing does, as some people might not be aware of what they have to do and what it gives them in return. The best way for contructors to extend their business is to learn how to make items for other races. You can then export them and sell them to races that may not have a constructor of your type. |
