Aerosmith Time-Line


1981

Guitarist Brad Whitford left the band and teamed up with Derek St. Holmes to record Whitford/St. Holmes.  Joe Perry recorded I've got the Rock N' Rolls again during this period, while Steven Tyler recovered from a motorcycle accident.


1982-83

Guitarist Rick Dufay replaced Brad Whitford.  Aerosmith teamed up again with producer Jack Douglas to record Rock in a Hard Place.  The group returned to extensive touring.  The Joe Perry Project left Columbia and recorded Once a Rocker, Always a Rocker for MCA.


1984

Band teams up with the renowned A&R man, John Kalodner, who then signs them to Geffen.  Kalodner continues to be intimately involved in the creative process to this day.


On Valentines Day, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford visited their old band mates after an Aerosmith show at the Orpheum Theater in Boston.  In April, the announcement was made that the original Aerosmith line-up would reunite for the Back in the Saddle tour.


1985-86

Aerosmith signed a new record deal with Geffen and recorded Done with Mirrors, with Ted Templeman producing.  An extensive world tour followed to support the album release.  The Classics Live! album was also released.


1987-88

Permanent Vacation proved that Aerosmith was stronger than ever.  With extensive radio play, the band started a world tour that took them across the U.S., Europe and Japan.  Scrapbook Video and 3x5 Video were both released and immediately certified gold.  Also Texas Jam 78 was released.  The Classics Live! II album was also released.


1989-90

Gems was released followed shortly by Pump which was released in the fall and headed straight to the top of the charts.  The Pump tour started in Europe.
