Aerosmith Time-Line

1960's

Steven Tyler was starting his own band in 1964 "The Strangeurs" who then became "Chain Reaction". Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton were also getting together in "Jam Band". In The 60's both Chain Reaction and Jam Band met while giging in New Hampshire.

1970-72

In the summer of 1970, Jam Band members Tom Hamilton on bass and Joe Perry on guitar joined forces with vocalist Steven Tyler in Sunapee, NH.  The original line up included Ray Tabano.  In 1971 Ray Tabano was replaced with Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer was recruited on drums leaving Tyler to consentrate on Lead Vocals.  This rounded out the Aerosmith line-up.  Later that year, the band moved to Boston, MA.  Soon, the group started to pick up a following in the Boston area, attracting the attention of local promoter Frank Connelly, who briefly managed them.  In 1972, Connelly introduced Aerosmith to Leber-Krebbs, Inc who signed the band to a new management contract.  A few weeks later the band's album Aerosmith was recorded.

1973-74

To support their new album, Aerosmith toured constantly, building a following around clubs and colleges.  In the fall they recorded Get Your Wings with Jack Douglas and continued to tour by opening for major headliners.

1975

Toys in the Attic, their biggest selling album yet, made Aerosmith the top concert attraction.

1976

Aerosmith's fourth album, Rocks, immediately went platinum.  Critics agreed that the album was the group's most sophisticated effort, and a classic American rock album.  Two singles from earlier albums, "Dream On" and "Walk this Way," became the group's first national top ten hits.

1977

Draw the Line, the band's fifth album, was released shortly before Christmas and went platinum faster than any previous Aerosmith record.

1978

Aerosmith made their move debut in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by appearing as the F.V.B (Future Villain Band).  They also released their platinum album, Live! Bootleg, which featured nightclub cover tunes and stadium renditions of new material.

1979

Aerosmith slowed their touring pace and switched producers, working with Gary Lyons for their album Night in the Ruts.  Joe Perry left Aerosmith for a solo career; Jimmy Crespo joined.

1980

Aerosmith resumed touring and released their Greatest Hits album.  Joe Perry released Let the Music do the Talking and toured nightclubs and small halls with his new band, The Joe Perry Project.
