Why Acquapendente?
It is a small medieval town in the heart of the Etruscan area
(900 years B.C.), and situated between Rome and Florence. It is
an agreeable place to live and draw with remarkable spring weather.
Known to Italians mainly, Acquapendente is not crowded with tourists.
Consequently,
it is a more relaxed place where contacts are easily made. It is
close to Orvieto, famous for its beautiful cathedral (XIIIth Century)
with the Signorelli’s frescoes and Viterbo, where the popes
had a beautiful residence in the XIVth Century. There is also Tarquinia
with its very rich Etruscan museum, Tuscania where the Lombards
in the IXth Century built 2 large basilicas with mosaics and Romanesque
sculptures and Bomarzo where a huge mythological garden was sculpted
directly in the rock of the mountain in the XVIth Century. The lake
of Bolsena nearby is a great place to draw and relax. Florence,
Siena and Rome are equally very close.
Students will be lodged in a quiet pension located in the beautiful
umbrian countryside overlooking the Appennines. The pension offers
good comfort and the family administration including Maria’s
cooking add up to make us feel at home.
