Education I attended schools in Harare (Ellis Robins Boys High), Gweru and Norton (Sandringham High School)
and later went on to attend the University of Zimbabwe where I graduated with a BS and MPhil in Soil Science....well this was back in the day.
I attended Lund University in Sweden, during the summer of 2001 for an intensive post-graduate program in Geoinformation Systems(GIS) and Remote Sensing.
Before I completed my Masters studies I was awarded an assistantship by the Graduate School at Texas A&M University to do a PhD in Soil Science specializing in Soil Water
Balance Modeling, Soil physics, Pedo-transfer Functions, and GIS. In 2006, I graduated with a PhD in Soil Science and a Graduate Certificate in GIS. Although I did all my coursework at A&M, I had to travel to Niger
(West Africa) during the summer of 2003 and 2004 to do my research with ICRISAT. Yet another great opportunity for me to travel and meet other people and cultures.
Travel The African countries I have visited so far include Niger, Mali, Burkina Fasso, Malawi, Zambia, and the Ivory Coast. In Europe I have been to Sweden, Denmark, England, Italy, and France. God has been so good to me.
Career Highlights The highlight of my stay in the USA was when I was awarded my PhD by the US secretary of defence Dr. Robert Gates who was then
the President of Texas A&M University, well, until my graduation day! You can access my recently published Soil Physics Paper on Pedotranser Functions
here. I have also co-authored a few Soil Science papers and conference proceedings. You can access my most recent GIS article here. You can also see a complete list of my publications and awards here.
Career I am a certified GIS Professional (GISP) and the GIS Manager for Mid-South Synergy. I have always loved GIS so this is indeed an interesting job for me, not so much of a
carreer change but certainly an industry change, I am enjoying the challenge. My main task is to lead the company's GIS initiative by designing, creating and managing company geodatabases. I am also carrying out Lightning
Strike Density studies for my company using GIS. God has been so good to me and I'm loving it!
