A Homestudy is a study of your home, the members of the family, your finances and a general assessment of your ability to accept a child into the family and provide properly for that child’s physical, social and psychological upbringing. It includes interviews and support letters from friends and associates. It can be a bit tedious, but most social workers know their stuff and keep the process as painless as possible! It must be a Homestudy for international adoptions. Most Americans and Canadians can get one inside two months and if you have a very good reason it is often possible to complete within a month. So, if you want to move FAST – then ASK!! Holland will take a little longer, and Britain takes significantly longer. Other countries vary. Your social worker will give you a list of documents that you must obtain to complete your Homestudy. Each country has slightly different requirements. We will provide the list of documents required for American citizens: Homestudy INS Employment verification Passport copy Medicals Conclusion including AIDS test Application Letter of Obligations and Guaranties Power of Attorney for your facilitator. We will provide you with the drafts of the last three documents. We also can advise what information other documents should include. For other countries, please check with your government what other documents for international adoption are required for your country. There may be other additional documents like Health insurance information, Medical check of other family members, Birth Certificates, etc.
