Tuesday

Well, Tuesday morning, we packed it up and left Breck. It was almost a sad occassion, except we knew we'd be back tomorrow night. The drive to Colorado Springs with Keith was pretty amazing. At one point, a mountain pass we crossed climbed to over 12000 feet, and the view was spectacular.

After making it over the pass, we were just driving along this highway, plains and mountains on both sides, when we roll up into this little mountain town. South Park! We knew that the creators of South Park had based their animated cartoon on an actual mountain town in Colorado, but who knew we'd get to roll through it.

This picture best describes the town itself.

After driving for about another hour, we made it to Colorado Springs. We unloaded some gear, and then Keith showed us around for a couple of hours.

This is some guys front lawn that is just OFF THE HOOK. He's got these giant metal sculptures on it, and they swing and move and spin. It really is amazing to watch.

The greedy city of Colorado Springs wants to take it all down though, because they're not getting paid. So if you happen to ever go, make sure you sign the petition that says "To Hell with Colorado Springs, this is awesome."

About a mile away from the sculptures is Seven Falls. I have a weird fascination with waterfalls, especially since my last Delaware Water Gap trip, so we had to go. When you get to the top of the road, you have to get out, walk through this mine shaft, get in an elevator, go up 20 floors, and get out at the observation deck.

The falls were frozen. The woman at the gate had warned us that they would be, but I didn't think they ment frozen frozen. Here's a pic anyway.

After the falls, we went for a little drive down a road nearby where Keith and Caroline and I went hiking the last time I was out. This time, we didn't get out, we just drove, and we didn't turn around. It's pretty weird when you're way up high on some mountain switchback in the middle of winter, and there's people hiking and riding bikes and horses and stuff. People in Jersey don't do that in the Summertime! Here's a pic through the valley of the plains of Colorado Springs.

Our road quickly went from 2 lane paved to 1 lane dirt, and the next thing you knew there were all these rock formations and caves and stuff. It was pretty cool. I can't believe it takes Keith a couple of friends from thousands of miles away to go exploring this stuff, because it's so much fun. If I lived here, I'd make it a point to be lost at least once a week.

Daylight lost the fight to night, and we went out to dinner. They brought us to this Chinese place which was the BEST chinese I've ever had ANYWHERE. The food was great, the service was great, and this was my favorite meal of the whole trip.

Afterwards, we went to Old Colorado City to have a drink and shoot some pool. Jay gave me a beatin' a couple times. Then he gave John a beatin' a few times.

Then we put Caroline's friend Robyn up against him. Robyn gave him the beat down. In Jays defense, Robyn held the cue like she left the womb with it. She was really good.

It's hard taking flash photos in public rest rooms. People look at you funny. But I had to get this sign, because it's a really nice sign. I need one for my bathroom at home.
