Sunday
Sunday morning, we woke up to 6 inches of new snow on the ground, and still snowing. This is the view out our balcony, and yes, those are lifts right there. However, we aren't going to ride Breck today.
We went to Loveland pass, met up with Keith, and the plan was to ride till about 1 or 2. We rode ALL DAY. The conditions were great! We found powder stashes all over the mountain. Sometimes we had to dip into the trees or under the ropes into avalanche areas, but it was the best day I ever had snowboarding in my entire life. This sign says "Follow ropes to base area. Do not cross ropes. Avalanche area."
In this picture, you can see where we crossed the ropes. Again, only John and I lack the intelligence to listen to important safety information. The powder on the other side of those ropes though was the best pow of the day.
See? John's smile speaks for us both. Last run down(LOW RES)
The snowy ramp on the side of the highway there is a "Runaway truck" ramp. The grade is so steep for so long that sometimes (often?) trucks brakes go out and they need something to save their lives, so they just shoot off the ramp and it slows them down so that no one ends up on the 6 o'clock news.
This is just a very beautiful sign.
This is John and Keith Sunday night on Main Street in Breck. The whole town was lit up with Christmas lights, every store. Everyone is so happy there, Dan is right, it's like Whoville. I'd be happy too if I got to ride these mountains everyday. Next |
