ABSOLUTELY BEGINNING CHAIN MAILLE CONSTRUCTION
We will start with the materials needed to make springs, from types
of pliers and gauges of wire (examples will be displayed and demonstrated).
Next, we will discuss cutting the links and demonstrate methods to accomplish
this feat. “Four in One” and “Six in One” construction will be demonstrated,
and all students will be given a bunch of links to play with. Handouts
will be distributed showing the two patterns demonstrated and other patterns.
Instructors will provide wire, cut links, and some pliers. It is suggested
that participants bring along 2 pair of pliers for personal use, if they
do not wish to wait while sharing the pairs that will be provided for group
use and practice.

The Green Man discussion centers on a curious relic from Roman times
that extends into the Medieval period. That relic, possibly a nature
spirit, is a mixture of human and plant elements. Topics: The Green

celebrations and rituals associated with the Green Man and their possible

BEGINNING SPINNING WOOL
Students will be introduced to many different types and grades of wool,
both “in-the-grease” and scrubbed. Combing (carding) techniques will
be practiced to prepare wool for spinning. Students will then learn hands-on
how to spin on a Drop Spindle and Spinning Wheel. Methods for winding
yarn into usable balls and plying will also be demonstrated. For
beginners who have never touched wool, as well as experienced spinners
who want to learn a few tricks. Bring any spinning items you may
have, but we will have some of each to share. Instructor will have
handouts, spinning wheels, wool, carding combs, and other materials to
use.

NORSE POETRY AND POETRY WORKSHOP
While the general tone of this class will be directed at Norse Poetry,
this workshop will be generalized to help poets or bards or scops from
any time period. This class will discuss the elements of Norse poetry
from Meter and Alliterative Patterns to stylistic qualities such as Kennings
and Heiti. While the focus of the class will revolve mostly on the
Eddic styles from early in the Viking period and Germanic periods, we will
touch briefly on the Skaldic styles that were used from the 11th Century
up to the late 13th Century. The second hour of the class will be
a poetry workshop. This will give the skalds participating the chance
to play with some of the forms and imagistic elements of Norse poetry.

WORKING WITH THE WORRY IN FIGHTING THAT KNIGHT!
Learn how to fight without worry. We will discuss some basic
fighting techniques with Great Weapon, Sword & Shield in a tourney
when fighting someone you don't think you can win against. Learn
how to relax and enjoy the fight, win, lose, or draw.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years of age. Bring
your armor and weapons, we will do some fighting if time permits.

WAR UNIT TACTICS IN THE SCA
We will discuss preparing for and fighting as one cohesive unit within
the confines of the SCA. Class to include training drills, unit composition,
commands and control.
