so i said to mom, lazily one week... hey, if you're gonna be in town, pete seeger's singing with ella jenkins next sunday, i heard it on NPR. she said (serious pause)....i'll call you back. and she did.
and POOF, there they were, a week later, standing on my doorstep, mom and becca, ready for whatever concert was going to take them to pete. well then. we're serious when it comes to pete seeger, you know.
the concert was great, stupendous, and we had a lovely time. only one annoying act out of the whole 4 hour concert (!!) and they weren't really folk singers as far as i could tell. the rest....were stupendous... pete led us all in a world-rotation-stopping rendition of jacob's ladder. we sang with all our harmonic might!
and we got their autographs! including pete's!!!!!!! becca did it. my ears were open, and i had a pen, but man, becca was all over the polite autograph request. she gave it to mom, and mom cried. awww. so we all got a little teary and went upstairs to round out the collection of signatures. we got all four dudes in riders in the sky, red grammer, mike stein, bill harley....and then....because were were SO patient.... ella came out from the party in the back...and sat at a little table in the corner for us to line up and present our scraps of paper. ...and then...as if that wasn't cool enough, she handed out tamborines and taught us a song. and we all sang together... |
