The English
Cocker Spaniel is one of the most versatile breeds and probably the hardest
decision you will have to make is just which colour to chose! This
lovely breed comes in so many different colour combinations - the choice is
almost endless. Possible
Colours include the following:
SOLID COLOURS
Solid
colours are black, black and tan, sable, liver
or shades of red. White feet on a solid are undesirable; a little white on
throat is acceptable; but in neither case do these white markings make the dog a parti-colour. In solid colours breeders can get what is referred to as a
mismark (eg: white feet, white colllar or perhaps white on the face). In a
parti-colour there is no mismark, just undesirable markings such as clown face
etc PARTI
COLOURS (aka ROANS)
A parti-colour is either clearly marked, ticked or roaned. The white
appearing in combination with black, liver or shades of red. In parti-colours
it is preferable that solid markings be broken on the body and more or less
evenly distributed; absence of body markings is acceptable. Colours
include: Blue Roan, Orange or Golden Roan, , Lemon Roan, Chocolate or Liver
Roan, Blue Roan and Tan, Black White and Tan, Liver Roan and Tan, Black and
White, Gold and White, Liver/Chocolate and White.
The above colours are basics only, and for example Blue Roans come in many
shades and can also be referred to as Light Blue Roan, Dark Blue Roan, Silver
Roan etc - so the colour combinations are endless. The above list is
a basic guide only.
Tan markings, clearly
defined and of rich shade, may appear in conjunction with black, livers and
parti-colour combinations of those colours.
