Sporting thump Academica in Portuguese opener

Sporting crushed Academica 4-1 in the opening match of the Portuguese
Premier League season on Friday.
Brazilian striker Derlei put last season's runners-up in front with a
powerful long-range shot after 26 minutes.
Compatriot Liedson made it 2-0 by heading in a free kick on the stroke of halftime.
Sporting defender Tonel added the third goal after a goalmouth scramble before
Joao Moutinho completed the rout with a penalty in the 87th minute.
Hungarian striker Szabolcs Gyano was on target for visiting Academica when he
tapped in a long cross from Cris after 82 minutes.
Porto start their title defence at Braga on Saturday.
