When packing and getting ready to leave for Honduras, keep in mind that if you forget something you can most likely get it while in Honduras somewhere in Danli. ?Also keep in mind that the more portable and compact your luggage is, the better it is.

Upon deciding to come to Honduras, immediately get started on the following things:
1. Obtain a current passport (no visas are required for entrance to Honduras)
2. Receive appropriate immunizations and chloraquine for malaria prevention (start one week before entering an area containing risk of contraction) Tetnus vaccine is recommended also if you are not up to date.
3. Finalize flight itinerary and e-mail to

Note: Do not send copies of certificates in PDF. Scan in a photo program.
4. Gather any money to be payed to MMMI and send to the supporting church in the
US
Items You Must Bring
-clothes--bring some (or most) that can get filthy; shorts have been preferred by volunteers in the past, but pants are good too
-light blue scrubs
-tennis shoes
-towels
-toiletries (Danli is a small town, in which you can buy all generic types of toiletries)
-medicines for donation (ask Kathy for specific needs of the clinic)
-sleeping bag
-insect repellent (best with DEET)
-chloraquine for malaria prevention (though mosquitos are not very bad in Danli) Speak to you Physician or see the CDC website.
Have full vaccinations, including Hepatitis A and B, ...Tetnus recommended.
TRAVELERS CHECKS ARE NOT GOOD FOR PAYMENT TO THE CLINIC !!!
-$150 per week for lodging, clean water, and three daily home cooked, Honduran-style meals by an amazing cook.
-$40 total for entrance and exit visas
-Spending, traveling, etc. money
-Peanut butter in a large tub (pb is very expensive here)
-passport
-health insurance card
Items We Recommend Bringing
-personal water container (Nalgene, Camelbak, or you can buy bottled water here and reuse the bottle)
-Spanish-English dictionary
-small flashlight or headlamp
-sandals -flip flops for the shower.
-sunglasses
-sunscreen
-raingear (it rains often, though getting soaked is somewhat fun)
-hat or head scarf
-antibiotic alcohol hand cleanser (Purell, etc.)
-backpack
-one sweatshirt or light jacket
Items To Consider Bringing
-anything from the
donation list
-books to read (many people find a lot of time to read here)
-music
-board games (to leave behind if possible)
-journal
-gift for Kathy--she likes Fig Newtons, crossword puzzles, anything chocolate, vegetable seeds (in a can, not a bag for customs)
-camera
Please bring a coffee mug to leave behind and an extra towel you can leave for others who forget.


Items You Do Not Need To Bring
sheets/pillow/portable mattress
-a lot of money (unless you wish to travel or buy a lot)
-mosquito net
-a lot of clothes
-a lot of anything
-any cold weather clothing beyond a sweatshirt or light jacket
-water purifiers (water is always available at the clinic/house and can be bought throughout town)
-anything expensive or expensive-looking that would make you a target for theft
