Sao Francisco de Sul

Not to be confused with San Francisco, California, Sao Francisco de Sul, is a small city in South Brasil, on the island of the same name( Ilha de Sao Francisco.) Although it hardly seems to warrant the title of city, it is historically interesting, has two museums, of which for me the
Museo Nacional do Mar (Maritime Museum) was by far and away the most interesting, and a number of historically interesting streets.
We spent the best part of a day exploring this quiet little place, which can be walked around with ease.
It was of course coming up to Christmas time, and it was an odd experience for someone who is more used to celebrating Christmas in winter, to see a nativity scene in the church grounds, in the middle of a hot summer.
However, on this particular day it was cloudy and overcast, in fact whilst we were on the island of Sao Francisco, we experienced some very heavy rainstorms.
