John Mann was born in Tandragee, Armagh, Ireland in about 1803[1] and married Sarah Leggett. Sarah’s parents are not known.
John and Sarah had nine children, each born in Tandragee, Armagh, Ireland:
i. Samuel Mann, Samuel was born in about 1831 and died on 10 June 1893 in Tuchekoi, Gympie, Queensland[2].
ii. George Mann, George was born in 1832 and died on 31 December 1857 in Morpeth, New South Wales[2]. George married Jane Bennett in 1854 and they had two children (James and George).
iii. John Mann, John was born about 1838 and died on 6 December 1924 in the Prince Albert Memorial Hospital, Tenterfield, New South Wales.
iv. Margaret Mann, Margaret was born in January 1839 and died in 1897 in Sydney, New South Wales[2].
v. Andrew Mann, Andrew was born on 24 November 1841 and died on 6 March 1879 at Bryans Gap, Tenterfield, New South Wales[2]. He married Marcella May Cameron on 26 December 1864 and they had six children (Catherine, Jane, Marcella, William, Barbara and Alexander)[2].
vi. Alexander Mann, Alexander was born in about 1843 and died on 19 December 1917 in Toowoomba, Queensland[2].
vii. Sarah Mann, Sarah was born in about 1845[2].
viii. Ellen Mann, Ellen was born about 1847 and died about 1872 in Queensland[2].
ix. Mary Mann, Mary was born about 1854 and died on 13 June 1937 in Steam St, West Maitland, New South Wales[4].
In 1862 John and five of his children – John, Sarah, Ellen, Mary and Alexander, immigrated to Australia on the ship the Conway. The ship left Southhampton, England on 17th August 1862 and reached Brisbane on 1st December 1862. His wife Sarah was not on the ship but as her date of death is not known she may have already died.

John Mann was born about 1838 in Tandaragee, County Armagh, Northern Ireland[5]. He was the son of John Mann (born Ireland about 1803) and Sarah Leggett.
John married Sarah Ellen Carlyle on the 22 August 1865 in the Presbyterian Church, Drayton, Queensland, Australia. Witnesses were Samuel Mann, John's brother and Mary Carlyle, Sarah's sister who married John's other brother Alexander. John and Sarah had four children: Sarah Jane, Mary Anne, John and Arthur in the Toowoomba District. Their last address in Toowoomba was Brisbane Street Drayton.
They moved to the Stanthorpe District where Isabell, George, William, Samuel, Alexander, James, Catherine Annie and Ethel Edith Maud were born.
John Mann died in Prince Albert Memorial Hospital in Tenterfield New South Wales. He was buried in the Methodist section of the Tenterfield Cemetery.
Alexander Andrew “Bert” Mann (Great-Grand Father)Born: Queensland, Australia – 7 May 1880

Bert was born on 7 May 1880 on the Melbourne Claim near Stanthorpe[6]. For most of his life he was known as Bert (Albert ). The Albert listed on his younger brother’s and sister’s Birth Certificates is actually Alexander. He was enrolled in school as Albert Mann. His eldest son was named Albert Andrew after him. He was a witness at his brother James’ wedding where he was listed as Albert Andrew Mann.
On 26 March 1906 he married Charlotte May Burrows (see page 14) at Mr Burrow’s House in Glen Aplin[1]. She was the daughter of Frederick Burrows and Elizabeth Osborne[7].
Bert and Charlotte had eleven children:
i. IVY ELIZABETH MANN, Ivy was born on the 31 May 1906[8] and died on 15 September 1999, in Tewantin[8] and was buried in the Tewantin Cemetery[8]. She was married to a WILLIAM PAGE.
ii. ALBERT ANDREW MANN, Albert was born on 21 November 1907 in Glen Aplin[1] and died 26 May 1970 at Stanthorpe[9]. On 18 November 1933 he married EVELINE CORA WHITEHEAD in Wallangarra[10].
iii. CHARLOTTE MAY MANN, Charlotte was born on 13 September 1909 in Glen Aplin[7] and married BLANEY CLIVE BOSTON on 2 April 1934 in St Paul’s Church, Stanthorpe[1] .
iv. ELSIE HARRIET MANN, Elsie was born on 8 August 1911 in Glen Aplin[1] and died on 13 April 1999 in Nambour, Queensland. She married ERNEST ASHTON on 23 March 1940 in Brisbane[1] .
v. WALTER ALEXANDER MANN, Walter was born on 28 June 1913 in Glen Aplin[11] and was killed in action on 22 July 1942 at El Alamain, North Africa[11]. He was buried in the El Alamain War Cemetery, Egypt. Walter was a member of the A.I.F. 2/24 BN., Australian Infantry[11].
vi. KENNETH RAYMOND MANN, Kenneth was born on 3 June 1915 in Glen Aplin[1] and drowned on the 13 September 1944 in the South West Pacific[12]. He married JOYCE REBECCA ANNE TALBOT in Goondiwindi, Queensland[1].
Kenneth captured by the Japanese during World War 2 and imprisoned in Changi POW camp. Towards the end of the war, the Japanese were transferring POWs to Japan. One of their POW ships was torpedoed by an American submarine, many of the prisoners, including Kenneth Mann survived the explosion but were later drowned. Kenneth was a member of the A.I.F. 2/26 BN., Australian Infantry and there is a memorial to his death at Labuan Memorial in Malaysia[12].
vii. BENJAMIN ROBERT MANN, Benjamin was born on 18 December 1916 in Glen Aplin[1], he died on 10 March 1960 in Stanthorpe and was buried at the Stanthorpe Cemetery (Plot1.M.11 3245)[13]. On 23 April 1945 he married JESSY INA BROWN in Lismore, New South Wales[1].
viii. HENRY CHARLES MANN, Henry was born on 14 May 1920[1] and died in Camoweal sometime before 24 October 1985 and may be buried in the Mt Isa Cemetery. He wife was Eileen but her maiden name is unknown[1].

Bert had seven sons, all of whom served Australia in wartime, six in World War two and one in the Korean war. Two sons were killed (Ken and Walter) and Ben was wounded in action. Another son was recommended for a medal and was promoted in the field.
Bert died on 2 December 1949 in the General Hospital at Stanthorpe[15]. He died from Bronchogenic carcinoma and was buried in the Stanthorpe Cemetery (Plot 1.M.12 2680-159B)[9].

Albert was born on 21 November 1907 in Glen Aplin[1] but his baptismal certificate states that he was baptised on October 5th 1907. He was named after his father Bert (albert) who was registered as Alexander Andrew.
He started school at the Severn River (later Glen Aplin) State School in 1912[16].
On 18 November 1933 he married EVELINE CORA WHITEHEAD in the Union Church at Wallangarra, Queensland[17]. She was the daughter of Joseph Whitehead and Mercy Stuckey. For further details see Eveline Cora Whitehead (page 19).
Albert and Cora had five children:
i. CHARLES ANDREW MANN, Uncle Charlie was born on 13 June 1934 in Tenterfield, New South Wales[1] and died on 8 September 1971 at the Royal Brisbane Hospital[18].
Charles suffered a broken neck in an accident in 1959. At first he was totally paralysed but after more than a year in Hospital and rehabilitation at Kingsholme Rehabilitation Centre he regained the use of one arm and partial use of his legs. He was able to walk with the aid of a walking stick and leg irons. He suffered repeated blockages of his bladder due to infections caused by the partial paralysis and developed kidney stones which became infected and he developed septicaemia and died from the complications of measles which he contacted while ill.
He was cremated on 9 September 1971 at the Albany Creek Crematorium, Brisbane and his ashes were later buried at the Stanthorpe Cemetery (Plot 8.E.51 3992)[9].
ii. JOHN ALEXANDER MANN, Dad was born on 8 May 1936 at St Gerard's Private Hospital in Tenterfield, New South Wales[19] and married BEVERLEY ELSIE HULL on 17 May 1958 at the Church of St Paul at East Brisbane[20].
iii. VALERIE EVELYN MANN, Aunty Val was born on 22 January 1939 in Stanthorpe, Queensland[21].
iv. GLORIA JEAN MANN, Aunty Gloria was born on 10 July 1940 in Stanthorpe, Queensland[1] and married RAYMOND TAYLOR on 12 December 1975 in Brisbane[22].
v. MARIE LYNETTE MANN, Aunty Marie was born on 3 September 1945 in Stanthorpe, Queensland[1] and married GARY BEVAN DRUMMOND on 29 August 1970 at the St Thomas Anglican Church in Motoeka New Zealand[23].
Albert served with the A.I.F. in World War 2. His Army number was QX39748. He commenced military service on the 24th April 1942 and was discharged on 30th January 1946. He was attached to the 2nd Australian Infantry Transport Ordinance. He volunteered much earlier in the war but was not accepted due to his age and family responsibilities.
Albert died of cancer and was buried on 28 May 1970, Stanthorpe Cemetery (Plot 8.E.51 3887)[9].
