SARAH ELLEN CARLYLE was born in about 1846 in Glasgow, Scotland[1], and come to Australia with her parents and her sister Mary on the Ship “Bermondsey” into Twofold Bay, New South Wales on the 7 December 1848[2]. She initially went to the Logan District in Queensland with her family[3].
On the 22 August 1865 she married JOHN MANN in the Presbyterian Church, Drayton, Queensland, Australia[4]. John was the son of JOHN MANN and SARAH LEGGETT[5].
Sarah died at age 75 on the 4 June 1919 in Stanthorpe, Queensland from Acute Broncho-Pneumonia Toxaemia and Heart Failure and is buried in the Stanthorpe Cemetery[6].

Sarah’s father, John (Snr) Carlyle was born in Belfast, Co Antrim, Ireland[7] in about 1812 and died on 13 June 1878 in Middle Ridge, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia[8] aged 66. He married Sarah’s mother, Sarah McLynch on the 4 June 1843 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland[9].
Sarah McLynch was born in Glasgow, Scotland[10] in 1822 and died 29 September 1900 in Middle Ridge, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia[11] Aged 76.
John and Sarah came to Australia with their two oldest daughters, Sarah and Mary on the ship the “Bermondsey”[12] and made their way to the colony at Moreton Bay soon after. John was a timber getter in the Logan River District[13] in 1855, he later turned to farming and was a wood carrier in Toowoomba when he died in 1878[14].
John died of “Diseases of Brain” and was buried on the 15 June 1878 in Toowoomba Cemetery, Queensland, Australia[15].
Sarah died of “Cardiac valvula dis. Syncope” and was buried on the 30 September 1900 in the Toowoomba Cemetery, Queensland, Australia[16].
John Carlyle and Sarah McLynch had the following children:
i Mary Carlyle, Mary was born about 1845[17]. She married a James Wait in 1869 who was a Mining Warden in Warwick[18].
ii Sarah Ellen Carlyle, Sarah was born about 1846 in Glasgow, Scotland[19] and died on 4 June 1919 in Stanthorpe, Queensland[20]; married John Mann on 22 August 1865 in the Presbyterian Church, Drayton, Queensland[21].
iii James Carlyle, James was born in 1851 in New South Wales[22].
iv John Carlyle, John was born on 14 October 1855 in Logan Village, Queensland, Australia[23] and died 13 February 1936[24]. John married Elizabeth Anne Chaplin on 11 February 1888[25].
v William Carlyle, William was born on 13 June 1858 in NSW/QLD[26] and died on 21 September 1930. He was buried in the Drayton Cemetery, Toowoomba, Queensland[27]. William was a farmer at Middle Range.
vi Jane Carlyle, Jane was born in 1860 at Clifton Station, on the Darling Downs, Queensland[28]. She died in December 1934 and was buried on 10 December 1934 at Toowoomba, Queensland[29]. Jane married Alexander Mann on 22 July 1881 in Toowoomba[30].
vii Henry (Harry) Carlyle, Harry was born between. 1860 and 1869[31]. Henry was a Bachelor Farmer, at Middle Range[32].
vii Isabella Ann Carlyle, born between. 1860 and 1869[33]. She married Dennies Deller in 1890[34].
ix Thomas Carlyle, born 19 March 1867[35]. Thomas was a Bachelor Farmer, at Middle Ridge[36].
x Unknown Carlyle, born after 1867; died Unknown in Died young[37].
xi Unknown Carlyle, born after 1867; died Unknown in Died young[38].
