Vote Cieran Perry
Cabra/Glasnevin Ward - Dublin City Council
-
Zero tolerance for drug dealers. These dregs are inflicting misery on young people, their families and our community.
- Greater use of Garda resources, especially more residential patrols, are necessary. Gardai must respond to residents phone calls and more importantly, no crime should ever be deemed
unimportant and therefore not worthy of a response. If we fail to tackle low level crime, we will suffer greater problems in the future. After all, criminals like Gilligan were left untouched and were allowed become drug dealers and killers.
- Court imposed curfews must be imposed and upheld on repeat young offenders. This will keep many thugs like joyriders and muggers off the streets at night.
- Parents must be held responsible for the actions of their children. Too often, young people are allowed roam the streets at all hours without their parents giving a damn. Any damage caused by these youngsters must be repaid by their parents. The young person should be made to undertake community
service to repair or clean up parts of our locality.
- The Security of the Elderly scheme must be properly funded. This excellent scheme provides
security devices for senior citizens. However, Fianna Fail refuse to fund it properly and even impose VAT on its products. This scheme helps our senior citizens, one of our greatest assets, to remain safe within their own homes. Proper funding and a removal of VAT are a basic demand.
- Paedophiles should be named, shamed and jailed for long periods. Under no circumstances should they be allowed reside in residential areas
without the community being informed. Our children are precious and we must always protect them.
- Mandatory 10 year sentence for drug dealers. Out of 278 cases only 12 have received the mandatory sentence. The government must insist on judges
imposing this sentence which will deter many others from becoming dealers.
- Dublin City Council have a role to play in crime prevention. Street lighting must be provided in areas. This will prevent Loitering. Also, private and unused lanes should be locked to prevent unwanted access.
- Sustained funding for effective youth crime prevention, anti-drug projects and family support services is essential.
