Images: Summer Vacation 2002 Photographs
These are pictures I took when my family and I went on vacation in June 2002.  We went to Wisconsin and Chicago.  Actually, "vacation" may not be the correct term, as we mostly just visited relatives, but we did try to enjoy ourselves as much as possible.

On our way from Kansas to Wisconsin, we usually drive through Iowa.  Their interstate highways are really nice, but there is not much to see, except maybe this.  This is a sculpture outside a rest stop/visitors center.  It is supposed to represent corn and other crops, but to me it looks like a bunch of giant cigarette butts sticking out of the ground.

Here is a view of the Mississippi River from the the balcony of another Iowa visitors center.

This is the very first MacDonald's ever built, located in Des Plaines, Illinois, near Chicago.

This is a house I saw while driving through Oak Park, Illinois and just had to take a picture of.  It just looks cool.

This is the Winslow House in Oak Park, Illinois, in suburban Chicago.  It is the first house Frank Lloyd Wright designed on his own.  Today it is still a private residence.

This is my sister standing on the steps of Frank Lloyd Wright's first home and studion, also in Oak Park.

Frank Lloyd Wright's first home and studio in Oak Park.  Today it is a museum.  One can tour the house, as well as take walking tours to the numerous other nearby houses Wright designed.

Another view of Wright's home/studio.  Those who are familiar with his architecture will notice that his so-called Prairie Style is not yet fully developed here.
