| In January 2002, much of the midwest was hit by a severe winter storm. Here in Kansas, rather than snow, we got a lot of ice. A thick layer of ice covered everything. It was so bad the schools were closed for almost a week, and even the university cancelled classes for a day and a half. Many trees and power lines fell down under the wieght. Services were cut off, and in some areas, clean-up lasted well into March. These are pictures my parents sent me of what the ice storm did to the tree in our back yard. No, all that white is not snow; it is all ice. Despite the damage, the tree is still alive, though how long it will continue to live is anyone's guess. |
