05/07/05
Habemus Artefactum! fanon and on.
05/05/05
A painstakingly researched, well-written and thoroughly illuminating evaluation of khyber pass in which Splendid magazine's Mike Meginnis goes decidedly Auld Skule on christöphilax's arse, waxing lyrical about authorial intention and bemoaning the absence of nice sing-along tunes. While Mr. Meginnis' observations offer a revealing and symptomatic document of the challenges facing the contemporary critic, we at christöphilax would like refute the frankly actionable assertion that christöphilax's artefacts are intended to harm auditors.
04/20/05
On his magnificent programme Arrhythmia, WHPK's Colin Bischoff (a broadcaster nationally renowned for his impeccable taste and aural sophistication) played "a song for the old europe," from the work of christöphilax in the age of mechanical reproduction. christöphilax was honoured to receive airplay alongside personal favourites such as Camberwell Now, the Apes, Wire and Ultravox.
04/18/05
Splendid magazine hosts a cautious, measured review of mockba 1980 in which the fledgling media theorist Andrew Mall (a colleague of the controversial Nicholas Mirzoeff) mourns for the loss of the realist narrative.
04/12/05
In the words of Baudelaire: "Il est l'heure de s'ennuyer! Pour n'être pas les esclaves martyrisés du Temps, ennuyez-vous; Ennuyez-vous sans cesse! De vin, de poésie ou de christöphilax, à votre guise." christöphilax presents forms of boredom advertised as poetry, the final installment in the current cycle of extended-play artefacts.
04/11/05
christöphilax receives the prose equivalent of six-of-the-best from the Headmaster, followed by a vigorous rogering from the Head Boy, and enjoys it. A serious, knowledgeable and edifying appraisal of the work of christöphilax in the age of mechanical reproduction from the earnest ingénu Amir Karim Nezar, a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan.
04/03/05
In the last week christöphilax has received further airplay on wonderful WHPK. This time it was the turn of the mighty "sergei soukhoroutchenkov" from the 2004 spoken-word album mockba 1980. christöphilax notes, with no small measure of consternation, that the track was broadcast perilously close to 4.48 am -- the hour at which one is the most lucid and rational and, therefore, most prone to suicide. It is hoped that no one was listening at this time.
04/01/05
Sous les pavés, la plage! christöphilax présente un artefact spécial, expréssement pour son public francophone:
christöphilax's last tape (La dernière bande de christöphilax). Ceci n'est pas un poisson d'avril.
03/30/05
Tax exile, Escobar-esque mountains of cocaine, chronic defenestration, grand rock litigation, cars being driven into swimming pools and extremes of sexual deviance not seen since the days of Caligula. The last year has been a quiet one for 391. But they're back with an extraordinary follow-up to the deeply subversive Notes from Underground. Oozing ectoplasm and armed with ouija boards, spectrographic imaging sensors, EMF detectors and infra-red thermal scanners, 391 bring you Light Mass Prayers - The Haunting of Borley Rectory. Be afraid, be very afraid. (Communicating with christöphilax by means of EVP technology, the late Dr. Konstantin Raudive commented: "This is a phantastic new 391 artefact. Let the spirits move you.")
03/27/05
The past week has witnessed a veritable flurry of activity. Tammy (on Chicago's fine WHPK) played a christöphilax golden oldie ("a song for the old Europe") and two audio artefacts were reviewed by intrepid cultural workers at Splendid magazine. Indeed, Splendid is proving to be one of the only venues foolhardy enough to engage with christöphilax's work. The Norman Mailer of music criticism, Andrew Magilow, brings his vigorous, muscular prose to bear on al-andalus. Philip Stone (whose previous credits include a now-legendary
review of christöphilax as formative of the function of the I) returns to go another round with christöphilax and acquits himself admirably, notwithstanding a potentially actionable comparison between christöphilax and david hasselhoff.
03/16/05
Danny Taylor, RIP.
03/11/05
Just in time for the Ides of March, christöphilax brings you a new EP: gajdusek comes to new guinea.

02/07/05

01/26/05

01/05/05
Hip-hoppers, punk-rockers, show-stoppers and pill-poppers, christöphilax makes her first full-length audio intervention of 2005 with goldensmell. Is it live or is it goldensmell?
12/15/04
As the year draws to a close, christöphilax would like to take this opportunity to thank her faithful auditors, particularly those who attended the trial and those who sent thoughtful cards, handcrafted ornaments or homemade victuals. As modest recompense, christöphilax offers up a new audio artefact, the power of christöphilax compels thee.
11/25/04
christöphilax would like to draw your attention to The Book of Lies, the latest long-playing artefact by fellow cultural artisan Mark Automaton. This audio intervention features some inspired new material by Mr. Automaton, as well as excellent cover versions of numbers by such giants of the popular song as Jake Thackray, Patrik Fitzgerald, Janis Ian...and even Sinéad O'Connor. Potential auditors can rest assured that no photographs of the Holy Father were harmed during the making of this record. Go here to purchase your copy of The Book of Lies. Mendaciousness is the new rock 'n' roll.
11/01/04
Just in time for the US election, christöphilax brings you a new full-length audio intervention. Recorded almost live in Ashgabat, under conditions of extreme duress, this latest cultural artefact explores territory similar to that of mockba 1980, albeit without the jokes.
10/26/04
John Peel, RIP.
10/10/04
Noted broadcaster and physicist Colin Bischoff of radio station WHPK in Chicago has shown considerable intestinal fortitude by playing an audio artefact by christöphilax ("No Spook in My Family, Get It?") on his programme, Spherical Harmonics. christöphilax salutes this bold fellow cultural worker. Potential auditors may be interested to know that Spherical Harmonics airs every Wednesday between 10am and 12pm. Mr. Bischoff plays many of today's popular beat groups (Deerhoof, Nobukazu Takemura, Melt Banana, Wolf Eyes) and some golden oldies (the Homosexuals, Blondie, Glenn Branca, the Police, Brian Eno).
10/09/04
Another new christöphilax long-playing audio artefact: khyber pass.
10/04/04
christöphilax will be returning to Turkmenistan for the next two months. In her absence, audio artefacts will still be dispatched to interested auditors and christöphilax will be available at the usual email address. She will be based in Ashgabat and looks forward to collaborating with local cultural artisans on a recording that explores the aesthetic and ideological ramifications of the Turkmenbashi's Shoe.
09/11/04

In response to absolutely overwhelming public demand, christöphilax will be releasing her first compilation album in the next few weeks. the songs' remains will gather popular favourites from the (five) CDs issued over the last six months.
07/19/04
Esteemed fellow cultural worker Mark Automaton has been exceptionally busy of late, overseeing several new and archival releases for the Waterden label. christöphilax particularly recommends Langton Freeman's Summer-House Tomb by the Mystic Umbrellas and Archaeology, the long-awaited collection of live recordings by the legendary Instant Automatons. Both are available here for very minute lolly.
07/17/04
A generous review of christöphilax as formative of the function of the I has appeared. christöphilax extends her heartfelt thanks to fellow cultural worker Philip Stone for his remarkably insightful commentary. christöphilax was especially moved by Mr. Stone's characterisation of the CD as "the soundtrack to your mental collapse."
07/12/04
Bringing new meaning to the term "Pet Sounds," the mighty Cocker Spaniels (aka Sean Padilla, Beaumont Texas's answer to Robert Pollard) have just unleashed the rather excellent
Withstand the Whatnot. If you're doggedly determined to sniff out some smart and tasty lo-fi snacks, then the Cocker Spaniels have a treat in store for you. "The Cocker Spaniels leave you begging for more" -- Horace, christöphilax's dog.
06/26/04
A new review of christöphilax's maiden cultural intervention itch has appeared. christöphilax salutes fellow cultural worker and Green Party Candidate Matthew Pollesel for his incisive commentary and analysis in Splendid magazine.
