Our next three days were spent in Barton, VT. Barton is near Lake Willoughby, in the north-eastern part of the state.

Rather than taking the highway to Barton, we decided to stick to some back roads. We were pleasantly rewarded by windy roads and many great landscapes. The road we took followed this river almost the whole way to Barton. |

The first day we were in Barton, we hiked up Mt. Pisgah. This was a beautiful hike that ran along cliffs overlooking Lake Willoughby (from over 1000 feet up!). Unfortunately, it was very rainy and foggy, so we didn't take any digital pictures. That evening, we arrived at our second bed and breakfast, the Anglin' B&B. The b&b was situated right on the bank of Crystal Lake. This shot was taken from the back yard. There was even more fog out here than in Waterbury. |

This was taken from our bedroom window at the Anglin' B&B. We awoke the last morning of our stay to see the sun rising through the clouds. With the sun finally out, the views and colors that day were the best yet! |

Not only was the sun out, but the wind had died down. We took the opportunity to take shots of the leaves reflected in the lake (I had been dying to get a good "reflection" shot since we got to Vermont). I think this was actually taken on our drive to our last hike. |

Another reflections shot. I believe this was shot shortly after the previous one. |

Our last hike was up Wheeler Mountain. This was the shortest and lowest hike we took, but instead of a dirt trail through the woods, almost the entire "hike" was scrambling on all fours up sheer (and still wet) slabs of rock. We had an absolute blast, feeling like real mountain climbers. We think the leaves were just hitting their peak that day. Plus, with the weather being so good, the views (and photos) were incredible. This shot shows just one small section of the leaves we saw. We liked the bands of colors, from orange trees, to still-green trees, on up to trees that had already lost a lot of their leaves. |

This shot is nearing the peak of Wheeler Mountain. In the distance, you can see Wheeler Pond. On the left hand side of the picture, you can see a little shed, near where we started this hike. |

This is a view from the summit of Wheeler. The big mountain on the right is Mount Pisgah. The path we hiked actually had points where you can look out over those cliffs! Lake Willoughby is actually right in front of Pisgah. |

This rock outcropping is called Eagle's Point. It overlooks Lake Willoughby, and also a farm, where we got to see a farmer herding his cows out to pasture. |
