August 2003
Klinsmann = Jay Goppingen

Klinsmann used the alias "Jay Goppingen" (nb: Klinsmann was born in Goppingen) to play for Orange City Blue Stars in California (where Klinsmann now lives in). The team was a in the USL Premier Development League.

Klinsmann had played 8 matches scoring 5 goals and making 3 assists.

However, it was not a return to professional soccer as Klinsmann explained: "I do it just for fun and it keeps me young ... I took the false name because I didn't want a make a big fuss ... it is nonsense to talk of me making a professional comeback."

Klinsmann visits Los Angeles Galaxy's training

Klinsmann visited a training session of the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team at their new Home Depot Center. When being asked about the last time he was at Galaxy practice, Klinsmann said: "That's probably been a year ago when they [Galaxy] were up at the Rose Bowl facility which is pretty far from my home. So I couldn't go there that often. Now with the new Home Depot Center closer it gives me the chance to join a few more training sessions."

Klinsmann comes to Hong Kong again!

Yestarday, Klinsmann played for Lorenz All-Stars in the Philips Lighting International Sevens at Hong Kong Football Club alongside with two former teammates from Germany's 1990 World Cup winning squad - Pierre Littbarski and Uwe Bein.

Lorenz All-Stars topped their group by beating KCC by 2 - 0, Penang Sports Club by 3 - 0 and Singapore Recreation Club by 7 - 0. Although Klinsmann only scored once against Singapore Recreation Club, he was very happy.

"I just need to get the feel a little bit. There are a lot of matches coming up, so I took it easy. I only played a little bit with my friends in California, but that was on a fun level. I'm not that active anymore, but I still work out to stay healthy."

"I really enjoy it here. The fans are great here, but I don't think they are here just because of me. There are many other wonderful players like Pierre Littbarski, Uwe Bein and Chris Waddle (who led the Philips Lighting All-Stars to today's Masters Cup)."

"I have great memories of the match in Hong Kong (in 1995 when he inspired Spurs to a 7-2 hammering of a Eastern-Kitchee Select XI at the Hong Kong Stadium). I also had another match in Macau after that. It's a wonderful place, but it's a bit far away!"

"I'm happy to be in Hong Kong and have the chance to kick the ball around in this tournament. I have my family (wife Debbie and son Jonathan) here and my boy can kick the ball around here as well. It's my third time here," said Klinsmann.

When asked about his recent life, Klinsmann said "I'm working for a consultant company called Football Solution in California, so I'm still working in the football industry, but not for a team or federation. I do my own independent work. I got a coaching licence in Germany two years ago. But I'm not going into coaching at this moment."

On the 2002 World Cup, Klinsmann said "I will move on to Seoul for the opening game, then I'll be based in Japan for the whole World Cup working for Adidas and a German broadcasting station ... My personal favourite is Brazil. I think they have huge potential. They have problems in the qualifiers, but they've never reached their real potential in the past two years. Maybe there will be a surprise."
